L. A. FENNEL OF C. & N. W. R. R. TALKS Makes Statement Regarding His Wife's Restoration to Health Gains 15 Pounds. Almost every man, woman - and child on the Carolina & Northwestern Railroad is either personally- acquainted - with or has heard of L. A. Fennell, the popular . railroad conductor, whose run is from Gastonia to Edgemont, who numbers his friends by his acquaintances. Mr. Fennell was interviewed re cently and had the following in teresting statement to make re garding his wife's restoration to health. He said: "My wife has been a sufferer for a number of years with sick headaches, indigestion and nerv ousness; in fact, in a badly run down condition. She hardly ever slept well at nights and of late could not digests the simplest of food, and was always taking dif ferent kinds of medicine without the proper results. Well, sir, I saw in the paper what Tanlac was doing for other people and thought it certainly must have some merit or else people would not make the statements that are being made daily in the pa pers, so just to give it a trial I bought a bottle and took it home to my wife. Don t you know from the start we noticed a change in her condition, her appetite got better, she seemed to relish all she ate, she sleeps soundly at night. In fact, she says she 'feels like a made-over woman.' She ought, to know for she gain ed 15 pounds in weight. Tan lac has certainly proved a re markable remedy in her case and wftl do all you claim for it. I certainly recommend it to all my friends, as I am now firmly con vinced that Tanlac is a great medicine of great power and ex traordinary merit." Commenting upon the above statement, Mr. Drum, North Carolina distributor of Tanlac, saia : "Although placed on the mar ket in North Carolina only a few months ago thousands and thou sands of bottles have been sold and distributed through the Jor dan Drug Store. Nothing ever placed on the market in the way of a proprietary medicine has sprung into such immediate nrominence and popular favor. People in all walks of life have been quick to recognize its su perior merit and wonderful cur ative powers." Tanlac is sold in Albemarle ex clusively by the Albemarle Drug Company. Price $1.00 per bot tle; three for $2.59, or six for $5.00. WAR SUMMARY. CHURCHILL TO GO 10 Mil FRANCE HAS RltiQNED FROM CABINET AND WILL ENTER ACTIVE FIELD SERVICE. TELLS REASONS IN LETTER Learns of War After a Year. New York Sun. John Eaton, an English me chanical engineer, who arrived from Lake Harbor, Baffin Land, away up in latitude 64, where the midnight sun is a familiar sight and the days are mighty long, spent more than two whole days, or about a year, as a boss or factor of a Hudson Bay com pany factory before he heard of the big war. He was the only white man at the station and therefore the only man who was interested in doings in civilization. The In dians and Eskimos with him did not care a continental about the disturbance in the remote and intemperate zones so long as they got enough to eat. Eaton was much upset by the news, and decided after he heard it from his relief, who arrived on the ice breaker Nudcopia last month, that he would return im mediately to England and enlist. He said he, probably would join the aviation corps, being a me chanical engineer. The Italian Government has dispatched a note to neutral Governments denying that the Ancona sunk by a hostile sub marine, carried arms or contra band, or had on board any per son in the military service of the belligerent countries or that there were any circumstance justifying the attack as a neces sity of war. The note further declares that the Ancona was not warned, but was fired upon by the submarine and that boats in which the pas sengers were attempting to es cape were also fired upon, many persons being killed or wounded. There has been only artillery action on the western line. Italy's entrance into the Balk an campaign is indicated, ac cording to Saloniki dispatches, by the arrival at that port of the Italian cruiser, Piemonte. This cruiser bombarded and destroy ed the railroad station and a large number of cars loaded with munitions at Dedeahatch, Bulgaria. Austrian aeroplanes have again dropped bombs on Vero na, Italy. Thirty persons were killed and 49 miured. The Austro-Hungarian Admi- rahty has issued a statement announcing that the Ancona had been warned by one shot across her bows but that she had fled at full speed. When she finally stopped, which was "only after being hit several times," the Ad miralty says, "the submarine allowed 45 minutes for the crew and passengers to escape.1 Denial is made that the sub marine shelled the Ancona's lifeboats, such reports being characterized as mendacious inventions. began and filled that office until the In the only fighting reported formation of the coalition cabinet last irom northwestern Russia, in My- He took the position of Chan the region of Riga the Germans tellor of the Duchy of Lancaster In were rpnnkprl hv thp Russian nr. the new cabinet, Arthur J.
