Roper Lumber Co. which for more than a half has operated a chain of sawmills in Virginia and eastern North Carolina, has decided to conblude entirely the operation of its mill here. This decision marks the cnnrln. - sion of a gradual decline in produc tion or lumber and shingles which has marked the operation of the Roner company's mills for the past decade. This reduction has meant in the per iod a greater attention to the devel opment of the company's rich hold ings of agricultural lands. With ces sation of the operation of the mills concentration can be effected. ' ; Hundreds of men who have been, with the Roper Company for long terms of service will go out of em ploy temporarily. This very fact says an official, is greatly regretted by the management.
