City Will Have New Work
Done Under Supervision of '
Atlanta Firm
The Board of Commissioners of
the town of Beaufort at a special
meeting Friday night entered into a
contract with the J B McCrary Engi
nering Corporation of Atlanta, thru
their agent Mr. H. G. Loving to de
sign plans and supervise the construc
tion of the proposed extension of the
water and sewer lines here. The
board agrees to pay the, engineering
company 15 per, cent for this service
and thecompany agrees to furnish
the necessary supervisors for the
work and the tools with which to do
it. The work will not be let on con.
tract and it is thought that the city
will save the contractor's profit which
would probably amount to a con
siderable sum.
The estimated cost of constructing
th water and sewer lines is estimated
by ihe engineering firm to be $70,-

of hearing discussions by exports
from both Federal and State Depart

but all the details will be under the
supervision of the construction com
pany. If the work is done for less
than the estimated cost, the city
will save the difference whatever it
mav be. The board thought this
plan a better one than letting the
work out to acontractor who of course
would expect to make a considerable
profit.
At a meeting held Monday night
the board of commissioners decided
to issue 190,000 worth of bonds with
which to do the sewer and water ex
tension and to refund a floating in
debtness of $20,000. The bonds will
