Sealed bids will be received by the
undersigned Secretary of the Board
of Trustees of Beaufort Graded
School District, Carteret County,
North Carolina, at Beaufort, North
Carolina, up to the 12 day of Janu
ary, 1927, for the purchase of $100,
000 School Bonds of said District.
Said bonds shall be of the denomina
tion of $1,000 each and shall mature
serially in numerical order $3,001' on
January 1 in each of the years 1928
to 1947 inclusive, and $4,000 on Jan
uary 1 in each of the years 1948 to
1957 inclusive. Said bonds shall ba
dated the . 1st day of January 1927,
shall bear interest at the rate of 5 1-2
per centum per annum, payable semi
annually, both principal and interest
being payable in lawful money of
the United States at the office of the
Treasurer of Beaufort Graded School
District, Beaufort, North Carolina, or
at the Hanover National Bank, in the
City of New York, State of New York.
Said bonds are registerable as to
principal only.
Each bid must be accompanied by
a certified check for two percent of
the amount of the bid as a good faith
deposit on account of the bid sub
mitted. In the case of the success
ful bidder the certified check shall be
retained to apply on account of the
amount of the bid. The checks of
all unsuccessful bidders will be re
turned. The Board of Trustees reserves
the right to reject any and all bus.

The Western Union Telegraph
Company must fight alone the battle
started months ago for permission
to increase toll-rates under a zon
ing system, the Postal having asked
permission to withdraw. The latter
will continue to transport ten-word
messages to any point in the State
for twenty-five cents, while the West
ern Union is t seek permission for
authority to charge more than its
present rate of thirty cents. No
date for a continuance of the hear
ing has been named.
The Department of Conservation
and Development comes to the bat
with a statement that North Caroli
na ranks forty-fifth among the
states of the Union in game preserva
tion laws and Director Wade Phillips
will recommend the enactment of a
State-wide game law that means
something. Nothing will start a
row quicker in the General Assembly
than a proposal of this character,
but Mr. Phillips says he does not
mind a fight which means "the great
est good for the greatest number.'"
