Mrs. Mollie Barnes and sister Mrs. J. H. Lewis attended church at Ocean View Sunday afternoon. Miss Bernke Burton, our school teacher, was a visitor at Wildwood Sunday morning. Miss Ethel Lewis and Mr. Oscar aney spent Sunday afternoon at Beaufort with friends. Mrs. A. T. Garner is at Wildwood on a short visit to Mr. and Mrs. F. T. Lewis Mr. and Mrs. Walter Taylor of Arapahoe were visitors at his broth ers home, Mr. Will Taylor's, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Garner and children of Newport R. F. D. were visitors at the home of Mrs. J. H. Lewis Friday night. Miss Lena Lewis accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hibbs attended a party at Wildwood Friday night I hey reported a nice time. Quite a number of children here have the whooping cough. Last spring it was the mumps that was here and now it is the whooping cough. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Jones and chil dren, Mona and Leila of Bay View spent the week end at Oyster Creek visiting their daughter Mrs. ' Elery Hardesty. Mr. J. T. Graham ' of this place spent a while in Beaufort at the home of Mr. Bennie Copeland. :o: NEWPORT Mrs. Maud Garner is very ill. The exact cause of her illness is un known. The members of the Methodist church are very much plea'sed with the elecrtie lights thct have recently been installed in their church. Mr. Charley Wilton and his family have moved into Newport. They are boarding now but as soon as their new home on Wake Street is com pleted they are intending to move in to it. Reverend Isaac Jones, Lem Hardy, Walter Roberts, C. C. Brown and El der Fairchild will hold services in the Primitive Baptist church on March 19th. The friends and relatives were sin cerely grieved at the death of Mrs. Nora Barber on March 3rd. After an impressive funeral at the Methodist church she was laid to rest in the Cedar Grove cemetery. Mr. Eliza Oglesby, who was form erly a citizen of Newport but who has now moved to New Bern was serious ly injured when a plank fell from a mill upon him last week. He is now in a hospital in New Bern. The concert that was presented by the Morehead City Graded School I band and orchestra under the aus-! pices of the Newport Consolidated '. School last Thursday, March 3rd was i enjoyed by all whe were present. j WIRE GRASS I Some few of our folks are attend ing court this week. Fodrie is reported quite ill at this writing. Mr. and Mrs. W. G Dudley were in New Bern Sunday visiting her brother Mrs Lonnie Foreman who is in the hospital there for treatment. Mrs. Will Weeks and Rossie of Morehead City her father this week. daughter is visiting Mrs. Austin Adams of Morehead City spent a few days here last week with her mother Mrs. J. T. Norris.
