Carraway) We had a nice shower last night which was badly needed. Mildlred Salter who is a student at Greensboro is at home fro a few days. Reverends. H. L. Davis and Watts and E. D. Hardesty were over yes terday and laid off a lot for a church at the fork of the road. Mrs. D. M. Salter and daughter Miss Mildred motored to New Bern Monday. G. M. Carraway went to Beaufort Monday. Mr. John Hardy wife and daughters of Arapahoe were here Monday. Quite a number of our friends of the surrounding country were with us Sunday. Messrs. S. E. Gaskins and John T. Mason went to Beaufort Tuesday. Elder John Sewell of Beaufort was here Sunday and filled his regular appointment at Lukens. Mr. and Mrs. Earlie Stallings and family and Miss Aline Beard of New Bern were the week end guesst of Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Carraway and family. Mr. James Kirby visited Miss Lot tie Moore Wednesday night. Misses Maggie Arrington and El len Truitt were the week end guests of Miss Elva Salter. " Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Salter met their daughter, Miss Mildred in New Bern last Friday when she came home from N. C. C. W. Miss Lottie Moore spent the week end with her parents in Morehead City. Mr. Alex Truitt spent Saturday night with his family in Beaufort. Messrs. A. D. Shaftesbury and H. R. Hulphier of the Science Depart ment of the North Carolina College for Women were the dinner guests of Miss Mildred Salter Wednesday even ing. Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Ball of Har lowe spent the week end with Mr. Ball's parents Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Ball. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Arrington of Beaufort visited Mr. H. B. Salter's Sunday afternoon. A Sunday School Institute for Merrimon Township was held last Sunday at Merrimon School building. Merrimon and South River joined in the day's success. The morning ser vice was given over to the business proceedings, generally; while the af- lei nuuii service was wnuuy a song , service led by Dr. C. N. Mason of j Harlowe. Between the services lunch was served on the grounds. Among the visitors present were : Mr. and Mrs. Baskin Knight. Gilbert and son of Beaufort; Mr. ; and Mrs. Henry Banks and family of Lukens; Mr. John Belangia and chil Mr. and Mrs. Henry Adams, and Mr. Wm. Rigsby of Becton, Mr.and Mrs. J. B. Becton and family and Miss Es telle Elliott of Eachelor; Mr. and Mrs. Stallings and family and Miss Aline Beard of New Bern; Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Ball, Dr. C. N. Mason, Mr. Rigdon and Mr Cray Taylor of Harlowe. ' filled his regular appointment at the M. B. church Sunday. ! Quite a number of our young peo ple attended the movies at Beaufort j Saturday night. I Mr. Oswaud Chadwick of Newport way to Oyster Creek to visit his sis ter Mrs. Ellis Fodrie. Messrs. James Graham, Roy Mc Dowdy and Miss Maymie Lee Dow dy of this place spent Sunday at Rus sell's Creek visiting their aunt Mrs. Tildon Fodrie. Mr. Gorden Hardesty of Mill Creek left Saturday for Morehead City where he has employment. Mr.and Mrs. George Streets of Harlowe spent Sunday here visiting his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Streets Mrs. Lula Mason is on the sick list at present. Quite a number of the children are on the sick list with whooping cough. Mrs. Robert Millis of Hopewell, j Va. spent the week end here with her sister Mrs. Clara Rouse. Mr. Alex Graham had quite another misfortune Monday while he was rid ing horse back. The horse threw him and hurt him badly. Quite a number of boys and girls Mr. L. A. Murdock has completed ! his filling station and store and is j if, now serving the public. He keeps j open only six days of the week. We j wish him much success. j Mrs. Lionel Murdock is heme aftar spending a while at Merrimon. Rev. J. R. Phipps wi!l preach here Sunday morning. Mrs. P. E. Watson, Mrs. D. B. Garner Mrs. Alex Murdock and Miss Emma Watson attended church at Morehead City Sunday night. Quite a number of sweet potatoes are being shipped from here. We hope the shippers will get a good price.
