LOCAL MEN MAKE UNUSUAL CATCH TROUT ADAMS CREEK Charles, Sterling and Frank Ram sey made an exceptionally large catch of speckle trout Monday over' in Adams' Creek, when they landed 10, 295 pounds of this variety of fish. The catch was brought to Beaufort and unloaded Monday night. Santa Claus was evidently one day late with his present for these fishermen. BURSTING TORPEDO INJURES LOCAL OY'S EYE SATURDAY When Macon Snowden, younger son of Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Snowden, threw a torpedo Christmas Eve ev ening, a part of this back-fired and hit him in the corner of his left eye, resulting in a rather painful injury. He was treated for several days by Dr. C. S. Maxwell and later by Dr. H. W. Carter, in Washington, N. C. Macon is getting along nicely now, and his eye will very likely be nor mal within a few days. MERGERS CONSIDERED Charlotte, Dec 28 Mergers of Dav ennort and Greensboro colleges, and of Weaver and Rutherford fiSHegel, were considered here today by, a gem mission representing the Western North Carolina Conference of the Methodist Episcopal church, South, which supports the institutions. SHERIFFS SAFE ROBBED Wilson, Dec. 27 Sheriff W. A. Weatherby of Wilson county is plumb mad. He reported today someone jim mied the lock on the door of his of fice in the courthouse here some time before day break and rifled the safe of about $500 in cash. RUSSELL'S CREEK The members of Live Oak Grove Sunday School assembled together in the- church Saturday night to re ceive their gifts. After the hand a round the people went to the F. W. B. church to the Christmas tree. After the program was rendered the pres ents were given out. The committee for both Sunday Schools spent the mtrtey wisely. They bought things that would be useful. Everyone seem d to be pleased with their presents. Quite a few of the people of the community went to the Christmas tree Friday night, at Tuttle's Grove church. The F. W. B. Sunday School made up some extra money to buy gifts for three old people of the communi ty. Four girls and two boys were se lected to carry the gifts. Thew were Misses Rubie Dail, Daisy Springle, Myrtie and Jessie Powell and James Taylor and Douglas Merrill. They went first to carry Mr. And Mrs. J. J. Skinner a present, they then went to carry Mr. Bridges Morton a present. They went immediately after Sun day School Christmas day. This was done so as to make Christmas day joyous for the old folks. Mrs. C. S. Rogers and daughter Christine are sick at the present, we all hope they will soon be well. - Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Springle tnd children of New Bern were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Springle. Mr. Melvin Hardy and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hardy were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Rogers Sunday af ternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. Jones is spending a while with Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lewis of Lenoxville. spent Christmas at Lu kens with Mrs. Lewis' parents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Barker. Mr. Lindsay Warren Cannon was very fortunate a few days before Christmas in killing a very nice tur key. It weighed 25 pounds when dress ed. Sine the issu ance of these passes four or five years ago all of the theatre proper ties have passed into other hands, and its management has completely changed. As a matter of courtesy and for fear of misunderstanding on the part of the holders, for several years after the change of ownership and management of the theatre we have continued to honor the passes outstanding. Now, however, on ac count of the extreme financial con ditions prevailing, we feel justified and compelled, though much to our regret, to give notice that no passes will be honored on and after January, 1st, 1933.
