. week-end vi.-its, however, it was de
jtcrmined that 1 should go to Beau
, fort too, so when morning- arrived
was up an.i dressed good and nice
Ihefoie breakfast, but after feasting
to my satis! action on a nice can of
corn I walked out to start my jour
ney to Beaufort to carry out the'
many orJers what had been so rig-1
idly enforced upon me. Grasping I
between my four finger and my;
thumb the hales of a bucket in which '
I wished to place some tar oil, I sped
away.
Leaving the boats mooring, the !
pine trees under which nestled the
old home could scarcely be seen be
cause the fog was so dense, when
the captain dropped anchor in mid
stream saying the engine had gone
had. Calling in another boat we
kept on and finally reached Beau
fort drenched nearly to the skia with
a thick and heavy fog.
While in town the hands of many
a old friend were shaken, many an
j automobile were looked upon, many.
i a store clerk called upon, when later
three quarters of a hundred Island
eis reembarked and sped away for
the Isle of Pines where that many
heads of families can be seen every
day scrambling thru bush and scrub
carefully handling clubs and spade:;.
However, before this Beaufort ex
citement was over, in rushed the big
play or show from the North, or bet
ter known as "Ocracokc's Best Play,"
set forth to the sight seers as "bor
rowed money," this however, proved
to be a very gool play, lasting till
well in the night, causing a many
high cheer and finally took to Ocra
coke $26.00.
Names of those who acted in the
play were: Misses iVrginia Howard,
Elsie Balance, Salina Balance, Lucy
Garrish, Carrie Williams, Mabell
Fulcher, Louidell O'Neal, Rebecca
Williams, uLcile O'Neal, Marybelle
Scarboro, Cassie Williams, Dell Gar
rish, Lena Williams, Lela Howard,
Lilian Jackson.
THESE
The beautiful daughlcis of men
Who so proudly sang, and then
'Twas later learned as the wonds
did blow
They hardly came to seek a beau.
They drove around most all the day
They neither stopped to eat or pray
At night 'twas said they ddin't
smoke
'Cause their hailing port was
Ocracoke.

- ORDER U. A. M.
ry second and fourth
he month in Junior Or-
The Beaufort chapter of the
American National Red Cross was
unusually successful a few months
ago in securing members. Dr. F. E.
Hyde, who is chairman of the Beau
fort c-hapler, Miss Georgia Neal,
who was at the head of the workers
in thed rive, and various others who
helped, got a brge mmebership.
1 In recognition of the efforts made
in Beaufort John Barton Payne, Na
; tional chairman of the Red Cross.
wrote a letter of congratulation
which reads as follows:
Dr. F. E. Hyde,
Every business firm or individual needs some
nicely printed stationery. It looks better than blank 4
paper or the rubber stamped kind. The people you
deal with will have more respect for you if you use
nice looking stationery.
