The Port Terminal Became A Reality In 1935
Perhaps the biggest news of the year in Carteret County was the begin
ning of the Morehead City Port Terminal. Credit for this achievement
goes to M. R. Beaman, the Port Commission and every citizen of More
head City that stood behind these leaders and gave their support. Work
began during mid autumn and if you drive the route between Morehead
City and Beaufort you can readily seje that rapid progress is being made.
The above photo shows derricks andpile drivers making a temporary dock,
All wooden piles were driven before Christmas and the steel to complete
the project is now in Norfolk.
