At White Lake Camp:

The Young Tar Heel Farmers
State Camp at White Lake opened
June 22 and will close August 28.
During this period schools from prac
tically every county '.n the.;., state
spent one woe-k at this camp. ' ' Last
week 17 Newport Vocational Agri
culture boys attended this camp.
During this week 15 other schools
from various parts of the state were
also in attendance. The total enroll
ment for tho week including boys
and -ts, was 265. During this
annua! encampment the Newport
boys .-, t-e competing with the othv j
school present in the following ac-'
tivities: Baseball. !I.:-ehoc pitch-j
ing, Softball. Volley ball, Swimrring
Stunt, Attendance roll call. Cottage '
clean-up, conduct, and percent at-j
tendance. '
First place in the total scoring of j
the week went to Newport. F:o;n a '
possible 250 points Newport ''piled
up" 200 which is also " high score (
for the season thus far. If our score!
of 200 points is not excelled during J
the next two weeks, Newport chap-;

son, Chief of Biological Survey,
giving dove season regulations for
North Carolina for the 1936-37 seas

Newport swept the swimming meet :
with six first places scoring 37 paints
to lead the meet decisively. Swan
quarter took second lace with 11
points.
Volley ball and horseshoe cham
pionships also went to the Newport
chapter.
Billie Roberts and Nick Allen led
the field in horseshoe to defeat all
other contestants from 15 schools.
Many exciting event3 occurred when
Newport came from behind to win af
ter a score of 14 to 0.
Newport came through to win the
championship in volley ball easily.
Stars of the team were: Charle3
Lockey, L. D. Huning3, Harry Sim
mons, Billie Roberts, Harry Mizelle,
and Nick Allen. Substitutes were,
Melvin Garner, and Durward Quinn.
Friday night was stunt night and
each school put on some original
