K. S. bewell who has been away
the past summer in New York City
in a hospital where he underwent an
operation and later visited his broth
er in Conn., while recuperating re
turned to resume his duties at the
Perquimans farm at South River
today. He was met in Goldsboro by
Jack Neal.
Mr. Walter Moore Jr., who was in
the city recently for a visit to his
wife and baby, is a patient in a hos
pital in Savannah, Ga.
Friends of Miss Irene Smith will
be interested to learn that she under
went an operation yesterday at Rex
hospital in Raleigh. .
Mr. Bacon, who has recently been
in charge of Mr. Sewell received a
message Monday of the sudden death
of his brother in Florida, due to an
automobile accident. He left Tues
day to attend the funeral of his
brother.
Friends of Mrs. W. S. Chadwick
will be glad to learn that she is im
proved after being ill for some time
with throat trouble.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mann have
returned from several days visit in
Wilmington.

CHIEF LONGEST IMPROVED
Chief Longest, who has been con
fined to his home' for the past fen
days with influenza, is much improv
ed, according to Teports from his
home this afternoon. Friends will be
glad to learn that although his con
dition was serious at one time, he did
not contract pneumonia, as was once
reported.
MISSIONARY MEETING
The Laura Duncan Missionary So
ciety of Ann St., M. E. Church held
its regular monthly meeting Monday
afternoon at the church, wit'.i a good
attendance. After the routine of bus
iness a nominating committee was
appointed to nominate new officers at
the next monthly meeting.
This being the week of prayer we
have been holding regular meetings
at the church and have had good pro
grams and the attendance has been
especially good. The young ladies
circle had charge of the Wednesday
program. The subject was "Workers
With God" with Mrs. F. R. Bell as
leader.
Next week will be our Mission
Study class. The subject being "The
American Negro and his contribution
to civilization. '

The Good News Club met Mon
day evening at the home of Miss Eli
nor Ramsey, with all members pres
ent with the exception of Miss Sid
ney Thomas.
The club is expecting to sponsor a
regular dance at the Legion hut
soon for the benefit of needy chil
dren at Christmas time. The club was
organized with only one object in
mind "Recreation" so games are
always in order. Points won so far
are as follows: Miss Lucy Holland,
2; Misses Ada and Ethel Whitehurst,
and Mrs. R. G. Lang.
