It was report ed today that their condition was FISHING AND OUTDOORS (Contniued from page one) but usually for the gamier species found in blue water otf shore. SENATOR ROBINSON thought so much of the fishing off North Carolina that he permitted his photo tn be used on the front page of an elaborate circular gotten out by Stan ley Wahab, advertising the island oi Ocracoke and coastal fishing there abouts. On the same page with the photo of Senator Robinson is ex tracts from a feature story in the News and Observer, quoting him- a story written by your columnist. CERO ARE BEGINNING to run in waters off Cape Lookout. That is the news brought this column by two or three local guides. The fishing with rod and reel off Carteret's coast has been up to par this season . but for some reason or other the sea son generally has been poor for guides. I thing I know the trouble. Several weeks ago on a visit up stato I stopped in several towns to boost our fishing and vacation possibilities. In several of the towns I had people tell me that they had rather come to Beaufort or Morehead City and fish than anywhere else along the coast and that in their opinion the fishing was better in our waters. But... we cannot afford to pay the prices your guides charge. It is darn difficult for anyone to get a guide to take you boat fishing from Morehead City or Beaufort for less than $15 per day regardless of how long you stay out. Sometimes the price goes up to $30 per day and has ben as high as $50 and $75 although the latter includ ed the charter of a good sized schooner. UNTIL CARTERET towns and re sorts can offer plenty of exception- FREE FACIALS THIS WEEK ONLY ADA'S BEAUTY SALON 110 Turner Street BEAUFORT, N. C. Guides will find that next season will be the same as it has been this year and probably worse unless they start competing with the fishermen guides and the rates charged at Swansboro, Ocracoke, Hatteras nad other places which are getting the bulk of anglers this year. COLONEL WISE OF Princeton wrote me that while he had hoped to come to Cape Lookout and fish for dolphin and try for marlin, he had better prospects at Hatteras and cer tainly more conservative rates from guides. Col. Wise is writing a book about fishing. If he catches dolphin off Hatteras.. and he will and if he should happen to catch a marlin or a sailfish, it will be that locality which will revive the publicity and not Cape Lookout and our section. And our fishing hereabouts is on par with the blue water fishing off Cape Seabreeze A Pleated Patron it Our Best Advertisement Friday and Saturday July 16th and 17th Johnny Mack Brown in "Guns In The Dark" Monday, July 19th Grant Withers, Dorothy Appleby in 'The Paradise Express' With Romance and Excitement Rid ing the Rails Together PRESCRIPTIONS DRUGS, SODA, CANDIES AND DRUG SUNDRIES Kodak Developing And Finishing 24 Hour Service YOUR PATRONAGE APPRECIATED JOE HOUSE Drug Store Mail Orders Given Prompt Attention DAY PHONES NITE PHONE Dial 333-1 Dial 901-1 Beaufort Program For Week Sunday, July 18th ONE DAY ONLY Jane Withers and Sally Blane in "Angels Holiday" Monday, Julv 19th ONE DAY ONLY Chas.
