Lydonia stationed at Brooklyn, N. Y. spent the week end here with his wife and baby. Mr. Monroe Simpson left Sunday for Port Monmouth, N. J. Mr. Charlie Meden and friend of Jersey City and Long Island spent the -week end here with friends. Mrs. James Willis spent the past week end at Cedar Island. Mrs. Nacy Barker and son are spending some time with Mrs. Bark ers parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Daniels who were recently married at New Bern spent Saturday night at his home here visited relatives at Cedar Is land Sunday returning to their home at New Bern Sunday night. Mrs. Larrie Runnings and baby spent Sunday at Cedar Island. Miss Ellen Lupton spent the week end here with her mother, accom panied by her friend Miss Carrie Jones. A number of folks spent Monday at Atlantic Beach. Mrs. Tommie Simpson was a visi tor here Monday. Miss Angeline Day is visiting her brother Stephen Day. Mr and Mrs. Wilbur Goodwin and children and Oswald Goodwin visited Mrs. James Willis Monday. Mr. Elmer Lupton is visiting his aunt Mrs. Guy Daniels. Mr. Allen Lupton, Charlie Pitt man and Floyd Hunnings returned home last night from Florida. Mrs. Ida Willis and daughter Sar ah visited relatives here Sunday. Mrs. Monroe Simpson and children spent a few days at Smyrna last week. Mr. William Arthur of New Bern was in our community a short while Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Lupton and children of Lola spent the week end with Mrs. Lupton's sister Mrs. Guy Daniels. Mr. Marvin Lewis of Belford, N J. spent the week end with his par ents Mr. and Mrs. Alex Lewis. Mesdames Carl Bowens Hubert Noe and daughter of West Beaufort epent Monday here visiting friends. Mesdames Sophia Lupton, Julia Fake, Amanda Willis, Guy Daniels, Andrew Lupton attended service at the Primitive Baptist church in More head City Sunday. Mr. Allen Lupton, Charlie Pittman and Floyd Hunnings spent a few days with their parents last week en route to Port Monmouth, New Jersey from Fernandina, Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Willis en route from Fernandina, Florida to Port Monmouth, N. J., stopped here for a while. Mrs .Thomas Simpson of North Eiver spent Thursday with her moth er Mrs. Julia Pake. ML i NEWPORT The Methodist Church South of Newport charge held it's third quar terly conference at the Methodist church at Bethlehem Sunday July 11 at 3:30 P. M. The Reverend E. L. Hillman of Greenville Presiding Eld er of the New Bern district preach ed. After the sermon the business part of the meeting was held. After wards the meeting adjourned. Farmers around Newport have been pulling watei melons this week. Con ditions for the crop look favorable. Mrs. Chester Mears and children of St. Petersburg, Fla., have been visiting in town the past week and are expected to spend the summer in Newport. Mrs. Leonard Thompson of the same city has also been visiting in town. Mrs. Lizzie Johnson of Dallas Texas arrived last week and is ex pected to spend a short time in the community. Leroy Hill of the U. S. Navy has spent two weeks in Newport and re turned to Norfolk Wednesday after noon by bus. Farmers in the immediate section of Newport have started working on their tobacco crop. The tobacco va ries from three to five feet and over. Three new combines have been purchased by farmers of Orange County this season. Henry A. Jandl of Princeton university and Spokane, Wash., is pic tured with some of his prize-winning works after he was awarded thi thirtieth Paris prize scholarship in architecture at the headquarters a the Society of Beaux-Arts Architects in New York. The scholarship ha: value of $3,600 and the winner goes abroad to study and travel foi 1 years. It is the most coveted architectural scholarship because th winner is selected from among all architectural students in the United States under twenty-seven years of age. on the dredge in South Carolina is home on a skk leave.
