Farmers around Newport have been
pulling watei melons this week. Con
ditions for the crop look favorable.
Mrs. Chester Mears and children
of St. Petersburg, Fla., have been

are expected to spend the summer in

Mrs. Leonard Thompson of the
same city has also been visiting in
town.
Mrs. Lizzie Johnson of Dallas
Texas arrived last week and is ex
pected to spend a short time in the
community.
Leroy Hill of the U. S. Navy has
spent two weeks in Newport and re
turned to Norfolk Wednesday after
noon by bus.
Farmers in the immediate section
of Newport have started working on
their tobacco crop. The tobacco va
ries from three to five feet and over.
Three new combines have been
purchased by farmers of Orange
County this season.
Henry A. Jandl of Princeton university and Spokane, Wash., is pic
