BE A FRIEND
Be a friend. You don't need
money;
Just a disposition sunny;
Just the wish to help another
Get along some way or other; .
Just a kindly hand extended
Out to one who's unbefrienJed;
Just the will to gove or lend,
This wiil make you someone's
friend.
Be a friend.' The pay is bigger
(Though not written by a figure)
Than is earned by people clever
In what's merely self-endeavor.
You'll have friends instead of
neighbors
For the benefit of your labors;
You'll be richer in the end
Than a prince, if you're a friend.

Army Bayonets Are
Housed In Cotton
DOVER, N. H. While one
group of chemists have been busy
perfecting new high explosives
for the War Department, other
scientists have turned their atten
tion to solving another military
problem that of providing sold
iers with stronger, lighter and less
expensive bayonet scabbards.
A manufacturer nere has just
begun production of new scab
vards made of heavy cotton duck
impregnated with a plastic called
cellulose acetate - butyrate. The
scabbards used heretofore consist
ed of a wooden shell encased in
rawhide and canvas. Officials
point out that the new scabbard
is stronger than the old bayonet
holder and decreases slightly tht
overall weight carried by an infantryman..
Spices
While imports of certain Euro
pean seeds and l'.'af seasonings
such as caraway, sage, thyme, and
marjoram have been curtailed
sharply, the imports of tropical
spices have shown increases.
