Miss Ruth Lewis 'returned Sun day from Oeracoke where she at tended the Shrewbrooks-Styron wedding. o Master Charles Thomas Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Ar thur, of Live Oak Street is getting along nicely after being seriously ill with bronchitis at his home. Miss Betty Jane Safrit of the Princeton teaching staff is spend ing this week with her parents in Highland Park. New Bern and recuperating at the home of her mother in Alliance. Miss Varina Way and Mr. Wil liam Way were called to Richmond Wednesday night becaues of the illness of Mrs. B. C. Way. Miss Elinora Way recently undeiwent an operation for sinus trouble in Richmond and Mrs. Way accom panied her there. Mrs. Jesse Metcalf, Miss Anne Robinson, Miss Jean Robinson, Miss Dorothy Eure, Gorden Bell Davis and Mrs. Joe England spent Monday in New Bern shopping. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Wheatly are both in with the "flu". Mrs. Wheat ly has been" ill for a week, Mr. Wheatly went home with it during the day yesterday and is in today. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Lewis, Jr., took Kerry to Wilmington last Saturday for a physical check up. Ben Keel, of New Bern, spent the past week end with the J. K. Steed's. of four hands of bridge. SMITH GIVES BRIDGE LUNCHEON Mrs. Harvey Smith beautifully entertained two dozrn of her friends Wednesday afternoon at a bridge luncheon at her home in West Beaufort. Mrs. Smith's rooms were lovely with fall flowers and a Christmas arrangement on the mantle above the open fire. Styron, of Ocra coke, and William Shewbrooks, BM. 1-c USCG, son of Mr. and Mrs, Harry Shewbrooks of Wilmington Delaware, was solemnized in the United Methodist Church of Ocra coke at six-thirty o'clock on the evening ol December tnird, witn the Rev. William R. Dixon officiat ing. The church was decorated with white gladiolas against a back ground of native greens and was lighted with cathedral tapers, The bride entered with her brother-in-law, Aycock Brown, by whom she was given in marriage. She was dressed in soldier blue crepe with matching accessories and wore a shoulder corsage of brides roses. Her matron of honor and only attendant was her sister, Mrs. Aycock Brown. She wore a dress of wine colored velvet with a corsage of gladilas. The groom chose as his best man, Junius Austin, MM 1-c U. S.-1 C. G., of Ocracoke, with whom he recently served in the Pacific. His ushers were Clifford Le Mere, U. S. N. R., and Louis Midgette, USNR, of the Section Base at Morehead City. Prior to the ceremony, Miss Ruth Lewis, of Beaufort, organ ist, played "Ave Maria" and "Be cause" and during the ceremony, she played "Liebestraum." Foi the processional she used the "Bri day Chorus" from Lohengrm by Wagner and for the recess'onal, the "Wedding March" from Mid summers Nights Dream by Men delssohn. Following the ceremony, Mr. and Mrs. Aycock Brown honored the couple with a cake cutting and reception in their home. Mr. and Mrs. Shewbrooks plan to remain in Ocracoke as guests of the Browns until the fifteenth when they leave for Wilmington. Delaware. Mr. Shewbrooks has just returned from eighteen months service in the Pacific. His Mr. Henry O. Piner, of Willis ton, died suuddenly last Friday morning in the yard of his nep hew, George Piner. Mr. Piner who has been in ill health for years at tempted to chop some wood. He was stricken and died almost im mediately. Surviving are two nephews Le Roy Piner and George Piner, both of Williston. Funeral services were conduct ed on Saturday afternoon by thr: Rev. L D. Hayman, pastor of the Williston Methodist Church, and the body was laid to lest in the Wiliston cemetery.
