Manchester, who has been visiting friends here, returned home yesterday. A. B. Nicholson, of Graham, was a welcome caller at the Dispatch office yesterday afternoon. W. Leigh and family, who moved here last fall and engaged in the market business, left yesterday for Chapel Hill. Mr. A. Cates, who is the traveling representative for the Holt-Cates Co., returned last Satur day from a trip to the eastern part of the State and reports that busi ness is much better than a few months ago.J Mr. J. A. Isley and Miss Alice Boland, milliner for Isley Bros. & Co., left Monday night for Balti more, Chicago, Philadelphia and other northern cities, where they went to buy goods for the spring and summer trade. ' Capt. Jack Wiggins,one of the most popular "knights of the grip" on the road was in Burlington last week, and gave us a pleasant sail. The Capt. is as jovial as ever, aud we believe grows younger and bet ter looking as years pass by. We are extremely sorry to an nounce at the hour going to press that the condition of Mrs. Is. S. Holt, Jr., who has been critically ill for several days, is no better, and while strong hopes are entertained for her recovery, still she is a very sic,wo man. It is thought that the next few hours will bring a change. Mrs. Holt has suffered untold - agonies, and had she not been ajbrave hearted women with indomitable pluck she no doubt would have succomed ere this. The entire community is pray ing for her speedy recovery. We are- glad to see, 'Uncle Eli Isley back at his old, job; carrying the mail for som? of the East Bur lington - people - Uncle Eli is 87 years old and has earned the mail for a number of years. Here's hop ing that he may be able to continue" for many years to come. ; ' Dr. R. A. Freeman, Messrs A. Cbeek and J. (X Shepherd spent last week at Elizabeth City attend ing a State meeting of the J.,'0. U. A M. which met at that place. They report a nice time, stating that they received very courteous treat ment by the Elizabeth people. The next annual meeting will be held at Greensboro.
