A petition is being circulated asking the Atlantic Coast Line Kv in the event they put on an early morning passenger train from Fayetteville to Wilmington to extend the run to Sanford, and 8tari at Sanford in the early morning instead of Fayetteville. Such a schedule would be a great accomodation to the people all a- long the line. Klltes Faldos. Six blind children, residents of Ihisand adjoining counties, who have been in the State school for the blind, at Raleigh, arrived this week to spend the summer at their respective homes, W. S. Fletcher, of Purlear, who attended Whitsett Institute at Whitsett, Guilford county, the past session won a handsome t'old medal in a close and spirited aeclamation contest with several other bright, young men at the commencement exercises. Saaford Express From the evidence of witnesses examined in the Federal Court at Raleigh last week it developed that there is a regular association of blockaders in the Spout Spring section' The member of this ass ociation are bound together by severest sort of oaths to protect each other to the limit. Baker, pastor of a Methodist church in Cuba and who is supported by the congre gation of the Centenary M, ~E. Church this city spent several days here the past week and de livered address in the local Met hodist churches, descriptive of his work in Cuba. Orange Count; Observer. Mrs. Martha Hughes, widow of the late John Henry Hughes, died at her home at Cedar Grove on Friday, May 27, aged 72 years She is survived by her son and five grandchildren. The funeral services were held from the Met hodist church at Cedar Grove Sunday morning and the inter ment was made in the cemetery at that place, Rev. Mr. Wilhelm, of the Presbyterian church, con ducted the services. Leaksyille Gazette. The killing of a colored man in Ridgeway last Sunday by special police officers who were on duty because of a negro excursion to that town was an inexcusable and much to be regretted affair. The unfortunate man was simply running from one train to anot her, when, for some reason, the officers imagined that he was a fleeing felon, and opened fire up on him, killing him instantly. The dead man was from Martins ville, where he was known as an inoffensive fellew, and was cer tainly conducting himself proper ly when killed by over-zealous officers.
