Why Take Alcohol?
Are you thin, pale, easily tired, lack your usual vigor and
strength? Then your digestion must 1:^ poor, your blood
thin, your nerves weak. You need a tonic and alterative.
You need Ayer's Sarsaparilla, the only Sarsaparilla entirely
free from alcohol. We believe your doctor would endorse
these statements, or we would not make them. Ask him
and find out. Follow his advice. J.c. A yer Co.,lLoWeU, Mass.
The endorsement of your doctor will certainly greatly increase your confidence in Ayer's

Washington, D. C., June 4~
It may be said that the prospects
for a Republican majority in the
next House of Representatives
are much improved, or rather,
that theprospects for a Demo
cratic majority are fast fading
away. In fact, Democmtic pros
pects have consisted mainly in
claims and blustee which are no
longer as bold as they were a few
weeks ago. The present Republi
can majority of 44 may or may
not be reduced, but it is expected
that it will be 25 or 30, if not
more.
The hopeless of the Democrats
is apparent in their claim that
they will gain from eighty to a
hundred seats—such a claim of
course is not sincere. The Re
publicans will surely gain twelve
or fifteen seats, and with that
gain, can lose twenty to thirty
and still have a substantial ma
jority, But it is quite likely that
her! as many seats will be gained as
! lost, and the noajority in the next
House remain about what it is
now.
The Democrats have beiati bal
ing their hopes on thie unp^ular-
ity of President Tafbut Tsft is
gi'owing in public esteem daily.
The people are learning the tru^th
about our big, good-nat\^ed* hon-^
est President. They are learn
ing of the ceremonies of his Ad^
ministration, of his persoal sin
cerity, of his aim to give the peo
ple an administration for the-best
interests of all.
Then again, the bugaboo’ of
high prices, which was laid^ to
the tariff r is becomingr a boomer
ang. Every one know^s now ttotfc
the increas^ prices were not due
to the tariff, but btjst of all,
prices are rapidly falling, and in
many instances are lower than a
year ago, while wages are con-
sistantly being advanced. Gen
eral industrial conditions are
good. The revenues under the
operation of the new tariff con
tinue to increase, and! no sigri of
calamity can be seen, and with
out calamity, 'which is always the
chief Democratic asset, that
party has no argumeiit.
Good progress is being made in
legislation, and the work of the
px’esent Congress will compare
favorably with any preeeeding
one. In fact, it is more than
probable that the first two ses
sions of the Sixty-first Congress
will be numbered among the
most important and effective in
our history.
The appropriations to keep
