Wednesday, Feb. 21, 1912, Have you joined the Husdisrs? There is time enough yet ;join today. Now that the chamber oi: com merce has j'eally waked uii,, we may expect something doing all along the l:'ne? Are you .I'eally awake gentlemen, are you really awake. i , effort there is iili you. i your friends, write to them, go to sey them, send them word, send others to see them, do any thing to land them. You will more than be well paid for every moment you spare to the contest. Some one is going to win these magnificent prizes, why not you? I You may say that you do not want the Automobile, well sup pose you don’t, you can sell it for a good price, and you will want the money that it will bring you. Read over this list of premiums again, and again. An- ilize them all, if you do not care for one, what about the other. Are you going to miss them just because you were not willing to spare a little time and make a little effort. Don’t say that some one else is ahead of me and I will not enter. Get in now. A few days makes no difference, to the hustler. Start now, do it today. Telephone I LIST OF [1NCL41EB LFITERS Stop your kicking anc; your knocking, and join the bolster? and the hustlers, you can hustle if you wil! only try- And ,;i you you really hu.^'tle, you car, ride bye and bye. After this week we premise our readers to give more sp^ice to National politics and less co; the contest. Everything will i)e in s.Ttiooth runliing order Dy that time, and we will try to inTere&t j those of you who do no: care anything about the contesit; As -the political situation stands now the (Contest between the lepubli- cans for the presidential r, ominS- tion lies between Ex-Pr?sident -Roosevelt and President iiTaft, ■with chances slightly fa\^orin,';: the re-nomination of President Taft. But Mr. Rooaev^it has many warm admirers w ho aie anxious to cast their ballots for him again, and they may become more numeroijs 'ijts the . days go by. S0!b3crt:)e' t‘(>r ' the Trispatch and wa will try to keep you post ed. Splendidly Raceivei The contest is leing splendidly received. Everywhere people are talking- about the mlignitude of the undertaking, and wonder ing how we are going to go through with it all. To oiie and all we desire to say: Ho one knows the magnitude of the un dertaking blotter than ouEselves. But we assure you that ,7-0 have counted the cost beforehand and that we are prepared :c> brirg the contest to a successful con clusion. It is true that a contest where the value of the premiums to be given away run into the hundreds, in fact nearly reaches the two thousand dollar lidark is quite an adventure. We know that a deserning public mil not let premiums of such value be Will Make the Fight Alone. The Furniture Manufacturers of North Carolina are up in arms because of the refusal of the State Corporation Commission to aid them in their fight for lower rates upon their product into the Western states. Our home man ufacturers have always been dis criminated against in regard to rates and have been waging a fight for years for a reduction to meet the existing rates enjoyed by our Virginia Cities, but hav ing appealed so often to the rail roads and in vain. They now jseek to have the Interstate Com merce Cummission, and the State Corporation Commission to aid them to obtain justice. But the state commission gets its back up like a little boy, and says we will not aid you because you^ did not ask us before you did the Inter state Commerce Commissiun. In other words you went to play with Willie Jones first, and now you come to play with us and we are not going, to play. Was there ever anything so funny, cr anything so ridiculous. A cor poration commission composed of men who are so narrow, so bigot ed. so selfish, as to refuse to aid the manufacti .rs of their own state against unjust discrimina tions, and because these manu facturers laid their complaint be fore the Interstate Commerce ComnMsaion, before they filed their complaint virith them! Is it possible that the Great State of NorthiCarolina has such men as officials and under a democratic administration at that. Where is Hon. William Walton Kitchir, the people’s Governor, that he does not have this set of play babies removed from office, and men appointed to fill these im portant positions that will safe guard our manufacturers inter ests. If the contention of the Manufacturers’ Association, in regular meeting assembled at High Point, N. C., P’ebruary 14, 1912, have learned through the chairman of our traffic and trans portation committee that the North Carolina Corporation Coin- mission, through its secrptary, Mr. A. J. Maxwell, has positive ly declined to assist, either in a financial way or otherwise, in the prosecution of our ccmplair.t filed with the Interstate Com merce Commission regarding the iniquitous and discriminatory freight rates now threatening the very existence of the furni ture industry in North Carolii-ar “And, whereas, it is the unan imous opinion of the members of our association that the Corpora tion Commission was created for no other purpose than the safe guarding of the life and growth of the industrial development of our State from oppression and diiscrimination and to see that the citizens of North Carolina given freight rates on an equit able basis with those in effect in other sections of our country, “Now, therefore, be it resolv ed mat wo C.O most emphatically Che very unusual atti- Lc*ae assumed by our Corporation Commission in their refusal to eo~opei'ate with us, and call upon all patriotic and loyal citizens of North Carolina, who wish to see this State given as favorable freight rates as other States re* ceive, to join us in filing our prc- lest against the position taken by our Corporation Commission^ ‘ ‘Resolved further, that a copy 01 this resolution be transmitted to the Corporation Commission and also a copy be given the press for publication, “Respectfully submitted, (Signed) A. E. Tate, (Signed) W. E. White, (Signed) B. F. Huntley, Committee. ’ ’ It is hoped that the, newspa pers of the Stale generally will copy the above and begin with their home organizations andag-i itation which wiii not cease until j tije question of freight rate dis-' crimination against the State of North Carolina has been abolish ed. The offerings and savings stand out very plain. We have never been better prepared to save th : people inQney than now. Look at the few prices judge (he sa'e ;. and not based upon proven facts, let this commission investigate their charges and render a deci sion based upon the facts dis- clored from the investigation. But to plead the baby act, by saying because you did not ask us first, we will not play, is work ing the baby act to perfection, and is at least disgusting and humiliating not only to the man ufacturers whose very existence won without a contest wckhy of ^ equally so to the name, hence our vxliraited * confidence in the undc rtiaking. New Hustlers are entering every day.
