Rail Road Company, held on the 6th inst., a dividend of 15 pr. cent was declared out of the earnings of the road for the last half year, ending 1st fJune. The dividend will, be paid as soon as the President of tha Company ,can succeed in receiving the funds due the Company by the Government, and the tim of payment will be announced )y the President through- the newt- IkliUtaxy Organization in Salisbury. TfaeSalisbury Watchman of the 9th inst,' referring to the organization of a military company in that town for war purposes, says : " The voluntesr military Association formed here on Wednesday, organized in rart, yesterday evening by the eleo tiou of Jas. E Kerr, Captain, and J. J. limner, 1st. Lieutenant. All its members are, in an emergency, subject to the orders of the officers, of the44Homie Guard' uotil it shall be ascertained they can have an independent existence. Meitiwbile, they assume duties not im posed by. the laws, but deemed impor tant as a means of guarding against our enemies. i The Transportat on of Malls, our 4 Army, etc. We copy from the Danville Register, of the 8th :nst., the annexed editorial in reference to Gen. Lee's army, the Danville Road and the transportation of the mails: : "The people are now; cabled upon to aid in getting iuptliei to our noble army under General Lee, by furnishing wagons and teams to haul meat and corn across the gap male in the Richmond and C Dan rill e Railroad by the Yankee cavalry. - The road will not be completely repaired for aereral weeks to come, and in the meantime food must be car ried to th soldiers. They, for the present, have an ample supply, but not enough to last through the 'campaign. The, Government has not the teams at a convenient distance, and it will behoove the people to render the desired assistance or the worst consequences may ensue." "It is not supposed that these teams will be needed more than a few weeks, at must. The Engineer Department of the army is now assisting in repairing the railroad, and the work mill no doubt be pushed forward with ail possible dispatch. The irpn to relay the track is being taken from the Statesrille, N. C. railroad.' . . "No arrangement has yet been made to transport the mails across the breach in the Danville railroad. The raiders left the road on the 26th of Juue.and coaches might easily have been put on the line in a day or two afterwards, to transport the mails between Meherrin and .Roanoke, yet neatly, three weeks have elapsed ana no steps hare been taken to secure this object. .We do now hear, indeed, that the Postmaster General promises to attend to, this matter in the course of a week or two I Thus the Capital city and the Army of Gen. Lee are cut off from all mail commnnication, with the South, because, forsooth, the Postmaster does not think it a matter of sufficient' importance to demand his prompt attention. Aday or two after the road was cut, the Southern. Eipress Company, a corporation that has some life in it, put wagons upon the line to span the gap and have been regularly carry ing packages of all sorts through, ever since If the people haduot long ago voted the Post Department, under the present management, as public 'nuisance, and as something out of which no good can come, ' tney would oe disposed to murmur at " this utter lack of energy and attention to the public interests ; but as it is, they expect nothing more.
