This facina ting style, howevtr, is not kept up all the way through, but gradually drifts to that of the ordinary student's history. To illustrate again, we give another extract from the latter part of the book: Our State has hitherto been al most exclusively agricultural. One 11l4ll-tal 1 t fr I i A. , ijouus oui tnai our greatest prosperity is yet perhaps t come from manufactures, and that j uie enoriiKus water-power dli. triuutcu over our whole territory except on the seaboard. Our rivers and creeks, though we have none cry large, are innumerable, unfail ing, and rapid in their course. This is especially the case in the middle and mountain regions, whom ti,a descent of the streams from higher ground gives not only to the main rivers, but to every one of th0,v branches, an immense amount of ioree. wc probably have not the coai necessary to great manufactur ing enterprise, nut we have a water power in our streams eaual to th labor of three million horses or Hip force derived from four million tons oi coal. There is considerable difference between the styles of the two paragraphs, the latter is not so well adapted to, and will not prove interesting to children. How or why any farmer can be opposed to the Farmers' Al liance is really astonishing, be cause it is not in opposition to any profession but offers' the olive branch of peace and good will to all men. When the far mers speak out boldly as they have for sometime for equal rights, fair dealing, and justice to all, its enemies in coward- uite accents are ever ready to exclaim: "Those insignificant organized farmers can't do any thing; they are too poor, and need not ortrauize for protec tion." The farmers who brave ly stand shoulder to shoulder, hearts and hands united in one common brotherhood, a-ith a de teimination to be a u.iit even unto death, will eventually suc ceed.
