Yes, there was considerable excitement in this city when it wai learned that the western mail arrived in due time. Latest advices from the scene of the accident aro to . the effect that no lives were lost. The excite ment hae subsided and the peo pie have about recovered from the shock. In the early part of last year I had a violent attack of rheumatism, from i which I was confined to my bed over three months, and at times was un able to turn myself in bed, orevtn raise the cover. A nurse had to he in constant attendance day and night. I was so feeble that what little nour ishment I took had to be given me with a spoon. I was in constant ag ony, and sleep, was entirely out of the question except when I was un der the influence of opiates.
