Vanco and Ransom have both been appointed to rhfurman ships in tho Senate. No other Democrats have bsen assigned such responsible positions:. Senator Ransom is chairman of tho committee on P.wate Land Claims and Senator Vance chairman of the committee on Woman Suffrage. Senator llansom is also a mem ber of the committee on the Po tomac River Fronts, and on the Quadro Centennial and on the very important committee of Commerce- Senator Vance is on the com mittee to audit the accounts of the Senate, on tho District of Columbia, on Privileges and Elections and on the committee on Finance. It will now bo suiely built for the Southern women have put their shoulders to the wheel. There will be no trouble to raise the needed funds to erect a grand monument to President Davis. The women of the South are to co-operate, and that gives an assurance of success. They never fail when they unite and put their heads together in any good and noble purnose. Kenan arose amid applause. cji.. kenan's speech. He proceeded in an elaborate and carfully prepared address to give a most interesting and en tertaining history of the Order from its foundation. Hr co n- pletely answered all objections to the secrecy of the Order and showed that it had always been a great def.!ndr of libertv and bulwark of society. Coming to the history of the Order in America lie said tliat Masonry was brought fo thi country in 1733, in which year the uusonic authorities in Eng land gave permission to masons in Boston to establish a lodo.
