A handsome new fence is taking the place of the old one in front of St. Paul's Episcopal church on Itail road street. The chancel in St. Paul's is also undergoing repairs. Mr. W. (. Faison, who has re cently returned from an extended trip through Western North Caro lina and Virginia, remarked the other day that in all his travels he had found no purer air or better cli mate than we have here in Clinton; and for good water, it may be said no town in the State can beat Clinton. The Caucasian begins this week the publication of "His Fleet ing Ideal," a composite novel by the following celebrated authors: Bill Nye, Ella Wheeler Wilcox, A. C. Calhoun, Inspector Byrnes, Pauline Hall, Miss Eastlake, W. II. Ballou, Nell Nelson, Alan Dale, P. T. Bar- nuni, Howe & Hummel and John L. Sullivan. It is a great ftory. Subscribe now and read it. , We are carrying a good number of delinquent subscr.bers on our books, and on account of bad crops for the past two years have tried to get along without calling: on them for money, but crops are better this year and.our expenses heavier than ever, so we are forced to ask all in ar rears to pay up as promptly as pos sible. Do they wish to injure the editor? If that is their object, it is certainly a very unenviable -pi l it, and then, too, they most signally fail to accmplish their purpose, for when .such a spirit among any part of his subscribers becomes known, the paper will he sure to got two new subscribers for every one discontinued. Again t,o another view of the situation, edi tors do not consider that subscribers take their papers as personal favors, but because the paper is interesting, gives the news, etc.. and that there fore the subscriber is getting value received for his money. The sub scribers toTiiK Caucasian get 1 rem it home news that they can get from no other paper and for which they pay less than three cents a week. Xow if the paper is worth this much to them they "spite" themselves mere than they do us when they dis continue it. Jt is very amusing to hear of a man, who has stopped his paper, borrowing his neighbors to read the news. He highly compli ments the paper, but how does such a man feel ? .Miss Lillio Chesjiutt. We regret to heir of the death of this estimable young lady which oc curred last Thursday at the home of her father, Capt. (). L. Chesnutt, in Adell, Georgia.
