IjOCALB:
There is some complaint of scarci
ty of labor by our-farmers.-
The farmers Vare buying vast
quantities of fertilizers. The sup
ply is not equal to the demand.
Mr. J. '' v. '. i Britt, of - New:on
Qrovo township,' has in our office on
exhibit eight ears of corn that grew
from one tem.
'Mr. John D. Kerr, of Franklin
township, has moved his family to
his father-in-law's, Mr. L. C. Hub
bard, of this town.
Our truck farmers are planting
largely in Irish potatoes and .straw
berries. We hone their profits will
fully meet their expectations.
We learn thai .Mis Annie G id-
dens will open a Millinery Establish
ment in town about the first cf April.
She will occupy the store now occu
pied by Mr. II. B. Giddens, next
door to W. A. Johnson's.
The great amount of rain we
have had for several weeks has re-.
tarded farming operations some, but
with the bright and beautifnl weath
er we now have, our industrious
farmers will soon catch up and be
on time.
During the warm weather of
the past lew weeks vegetation put out
very rapidly, especially peach and
pear blooms, and we fear that we
will again be deprived of this excel
lent fruit owing to the change in the
weather.
The Public Printing question
aroused some discussion among the
people of the State. See r. full state
ment of the facts on w first page,
written by the editor of this paper,
who is in Raleigh and a member ot
the Legislature, who therefore knows
the true inwardness of the whole
matter.
