Micks who was visit ing here last week left Friday for Raleigh, where he is to take charge of a branch store of Royal & Borden. Mrs. Di. I. W. Faison is visiting Dr. B. F. Marable. We had a very pleasant call this week from our young countyman, Mr. John A. Oates, Jr., the Manag ing Editor of the North Carolina Baptist. Mr. Oates is making quite a success of this paper. Though a young man, he is discharging his duties with care nd ability. We are sorry to know that ha has been quite sick for the past few weeks. Mr. Matt Carroll, late of The Caucacian force, now located in Fayetleville, was here last Saturday. MrsL. J. Merriman is on a visit to her sister, Mrs. W. K. Beaman. Miss Mamie Faison is" visiting Miss Florence Faison at Elliotts, this week. Mr. R. F. Boykin returned Tues day from Wilson. While there he attended the Fife meeting for sever al days. He says it was a very suc cessful one. Large crowds were present and about one hundred and fifty bad promised to connect them selves with some church. The meet ing will close to-day. We were very glad to see Col. L. A. Powell on the streets this week Miss Berta nobbs is on a visit to her sister, Mrs. T. M. Fenell Miss Delia Peterson, of South Clinton is visiting in town, guest of Mr. and Mrs. J. R. Wedding. Thsy are innocent or guilty befora society and God according to their decision. The encourage ment or tho suppression of vice in its most deadly fo ms depends upon is. The law requi es that a person must prove a "good moral character" in order to obtain a license to sell liquors. Ho mnst prove not simply a moral character, but a good mon.1 character. The word good nualiSca morai, an3 means a pure, high standard of moral character. Bat let us leave off tha word eood for the present and inquire sitnily what constitutes a moral character? Moral means: "Conformed to ruies of right, or to the diviae law respecting social dutie?, virtuous, jast. Webster. Morality means: "The quality of an action which renders it good; the conformity of an act to the divine law." Wetster.
