I have no recollection of it, but it is more than probable that I spoke to Capt. McBee in his behalf. It would have been a most unnarural fathei who would haye done otherwise. But as there are other matters of rumor not in your letter, but calcu lated to prejadice your mind, I con sider it bat simple justice to state the iacts as to eaca one. it is charged that when the Seaboard system wa3 endeavoring to. give the people cheap rates that I interfered. The following is a copy of orders in the case see report of the Commis sioners to the Governor, page 213: "It appears from press reports that reduced rates have been again or dered to be put iu effect from cer tain points within clearly causing a discrimination in violation of the long and short haul clause of the Act creating the Commission. It is ordered by this Commission that all roads doing business within the State of North Carolina shall re duce their local tariffs of p&ssenger and freight in the same proportion as has been done by them on their through busines."
