BLEEP LAY DOWN WITH AIAUM AND THE BOUND OF THE PISTOL WAH MOKE FUKQUENT THAN THE BONG OF THE MOCKING FIRD." llOW HTANDH THE CASE TO-DAY OovEitsou? Haven't the acth OF THPEE ICED SHIRT LEGISLATURES AMD UOKK THAN TWO YEARS OF YOUR OWN HENEFICENT RULE PASSED INTO HIHTORY SINCE YOU PROCLAIMED THE FOREGOING? When you are cavorting over THE STATE WHOOPING FOR EDUCA TION AND ROADS DON'T YOU HEAR OF MORE CRIMES IJEING COMMITED IN NORTH CAROLINA THAN EVER BEFORE AND DO YOU CONTINUE TO ATTRIBUTE THESE TO FUSION RULE? It gueins that all of Gov. Aycocks efforts to arouse to the people to his kind of education have failed. They have done away with many of the public schools so as to give the others longer terms and now the distance is too great for many chil dren to attend. The Asheville Register writing on this subject says: The Concord Tribune asks "what can be done in this country to arouse more interest in education ?" What is the matter with Govern or Aycock? Didn't he take the job of arousing public opinion to the point of compelling every child In the State to become an educated citizen. Hasn't he and his machine Bpellbinders gone up and down the State making Democratic speeches at their educational rallies until they have made the people sick? And to make sure of being able to boast of having lengthened the school term haven't they consoli dated school districts until remote ness from the school is keeping hundreds of children away? This is getting ready for 1908 with a vei.geance, isn't it? If you wait till more interest in education i3 aroused among the people who com pose the illiterate class before a for ward step is taken you will die waiting. Tho first essential is a school sufficiently convenient to allow every child in the district to attend without hardship." The corporation commission is very much worried at the State Printer for his failure to do the necessary printing for their offices, and speaks of having the work done elsewhere This is strange news to come from a democrat official about a democratic State Printer. The democrats have tried to make the people believe that only the fusionlst were incompetent. The Cleveland County Star thinks the salary of the Supreme and Su perior Court judges should be in creased to 14000 per year and the Governor's salary from $4000 to $5000. It seems that all democratic politicians -can think about is offices and at increased salaries. He says he is in sympathy with the labor ing man and then turns around and roDs mm to death with high taxes o leather his own nest. Tne Bnelby Aurora thinks the Penitentiary authorities are too busy looking after escaped convicts to tell us about that surplus. The .A convicts must be very Impatient if they can't wait for Gov. Aycock to pardon them. we are in receipt of a catalogue of the Central Carolina Fair, associ ation. The Greensboro fair will be held this year on Oct. 14, 15th and 16th and we predict that it will be a success as Greensboro people never do things by halves. The anion of boiler-makers in Jersycity went out on strike for lower wages some days ago. It seems that they could'nt stand pros perity they must have been democrats. The Raleigh Times says the Wake County Board of equalization, (of taxes) which was in session last week and part of this week, cost the county $100 per day, and thought it right expensive. Why of course its expensive, and did yoa ever know any government by the dem ocrats that wasn't expensive? It is stated that thirty seven negroes ate breakfast In the main dinning room of the hotel in Ham let Monday morning. Wonder If Simmons and Aycock think "fusion rule" Is responsible for this. Senator Ben Tillman of South Carolina at one time denounced officials for riding on rail road passes. This same Senator -lost his Docket book some days ago containining railroad passes and telegraph franks. But who expected any better. WAKE COUNTY EQUALIZATION BOARD. They Ilara Heard Many ComnlalnU From the T Pay era An Expensive Board. Raleigh Times. A gentleman who knows stated today that the moat expensive equalization board that has ever been on the hands of the county is the present one. The board has been sitting for many days, talking, receiving com plaint?, handing down their deci sions, etc., and when they adjourn this afternoon it will be to meet again next Monday. He said this business costs the county over one hundred dollars per day. A large number of complaints were received agaia todav. They continue to pile in, and chairman ureen said this afternoon that the tninsr might end Monday, but be would not say so positively. CAfE FEAIl AND NORTHERN. TROUBLE WITH THE STATE PRINTING. The Corporation Conmlitinn t. v. Much Annoyed at the Failure of the State Printer to Perform His Duty. Raleigh Post. The coaperation commission ves- terday gave out a statement that hev are very much annoyed at the allure of the State printer to do he necessary printing for the office. The statements of banks are not now published for the reason that he printer is so slow in getting hem out that they are of no ser vice. The commission states that the printer was furnished with codv 1 A . . ior a 101 oi Diana: books early in May, a job that could easily have been furnished by any one prepared for such work within ten days but has not been delivered. The tax report of the commission is now ready lor the printer and' copy for the corporation commission I report proper will soon be ready but it would seem, the commission say, that the present State printer can't possibly Jo it, and they will probably have it done elsewhere, as he corporation commission act ems to authorize. mwm mi A.
