WALTER CLARK, CHIEF JUSTICE The Charlotte News referring to the Finch-McBee "Conspiracy" in connection with the A. & N. C. re ceivership says : "If the case goes against them they can appeal to the Supreme Court Walter Clark, Chief Justice." Well suppose the case should be de cided against these gentlemen in the Wake county court and the case be appealed to the Supreme Court. Then the Charlotte News implies that Chief Justice Clark would de cide against these gentlemen with out regard to the evidenoe in the case. This is an insinuation that we would think Judge Clark would reeent. Even if the case is appealed to the Supreme Court Judge Clark cannot sit upon the case, so the edi tor of the Charlotte News had better read up and come again. The following clipping is a part of an editorial that appeared in the Raleigh News and Observer last week: "A party that will steal from its own members cannot be trusted to be honest with other folks." Yes that is why we aro afraid to trust the democratic machine, and why the voters should overthrow this old machine and put a crowd In that would run the government in the interest of the people. The Simmon's machine could not even treat one of their leaders, Julian S. Carr, fair when he want ed to be Senator instead of Sim mons. It was alright for him to 'shell out the coin" in every cam paign to help elect other democratic officials, but when he wanted re ward for all the money he furnish ed the crowd, they told him to de part they knew him not and they cinched the matters at the demo era tic primaries. A "SORROWFUL EXHIBITION". Senator Simmons made a ''sorrow ful exhibition" of himself in the United States Senate on last Friday according to the Washington Post. See an extract from the Pest of last Sunday in another column of ths issue. Senator Beveridge made him rediculous, and prominent Southern people are ashamed of the result. Since the southern democrats have become discouraged over the prospect of ever electing another president, they have become very much dissatisfied because a repub lican president does not let them to name the persons who shall hold the federal positions. Now isn't that the cheek of a brass-monkey WHO It RESPONSIBLE f The Wilmington Star is credited with the following : "As long as we lynch in the South and furthermore draw shot . guns and shoot each other to death on the streets, we are wasting time in establishing immigration bureaus. People will be detered from immi grating to a State where a big mur der record is made, year in and year Wt." The above mut have been a bit at Senator Him moo 'a propred in. mi gration hurauY but it In quite sin gular that a democratic jir boaid be so fnnk, in view of the fact that the so called 'good government regime are in control of tu affair of the ntate If the fu-ionUU were re sponsible for the crimes cotnmiiU-d in the State during thir rule, Governor Aycock aid they wer, who is reongible for thU great In crease In crime Kince the democrat have been in control? Th following appfrel In the Washington Iot of la-t Mnla : St. Loui Advocate: The Wash ington P.t laugh at the lt pubi can beeau-e thy are "all gettitig into ih band wagon." And an en terprising brother remark that the trouble wMi the Democrat U that they haven't any to gt into. No one can vote in the coming November election unless he pay his poll tax on or before the fiivt day of May, 19tH. Let every voter who Is opposed to the present demo cratic administration pay hU poll tax before May 1st and ca&t bin vote for good government. The grand jury of Wake County court last week recommended that a coat of whitewash be provided for the inside of the court-house. Who would be the proper authority to recommend "whitewash" for some of the offices In the State Capitol? It is said that in Japan the in habitants build their kitchens in irom oi ineir nouses, in some re spects this reminds us of our State Capitol just at present the "kitchen cabinent" seems to be in front. A prominent business man in forms us that there are five solicit ing freight agents in Goldsboro for the A. & N. C. Road drawing $50. per month each. Why this great expense when there is no compet ing line? Senator Simmons wants to take a look at the books of the post office department. We do not suppose any one would object if they had the time to show him. But why not come down and take a look at the books nf the A. & N C. Rail- oad under democratic government. A cablegram states that the Bus sians are "anxious, irresolute, and a little nervous." That is bad, but the Democratic party over on this side of the water is down with the same disease. The yellow Jacket takes the fol- lowing view of the Democratic squabble : 'Every Democrat in the country i is doing his best to prove that every other Democrat is dtsloyal." And it begins to look like they are all going to prove it on each other, too." DID NOT LIKE JUDGE PEEDLES. The Robeson county bar last week refused to have their cases tried before Judge Peebles. A Thoughtful Man M. M. Austin of Winchester, Ind. knew what to do in the hour of need. His wife had such an unusual case of stomach and liver trouble, physicians could not help her. He thought of and tried Dr. King's New Lite Pills and she got relief at once and was finally cured. Only 25c, at all druggists. A REMARKallLF OFFER. Two U. S. Senators, three Congressmen two State Solicitor, one candidate for Governor (Gleen) the Governor's Private Secretary and one lawyer book-agent from away back yonder in Swain County (Hay) form a part of the .aforesaid Democratic legal machine that has been working the road into a gual mish sickness nigh to death and olny eight of them live on the route.
