Danville, Va., Sept. 23. Walter (Jihnon, a young white man about 22 years of age, who has been employed an brakeman for the Danville and Western Railway, was instantly killed at Spray, N. C. While assist ing in unloading the train some ex press, a heavy box in some manner fell on his chest, crushing him to death. Gibson resided at Leaks ville, N. C, and leaves a young wife. Severe Quake in California. San Barnadino, Cal., Sept. 20 An earthquake shock that brought the residents of this city into the streets in alarm and caused a general shake up in the arrangements of many households was experienced here last evening. The direction of the shock was from southeast to northwest, and was preceded by a rumbling noise. There seemed to be a succession of shocks terminating with a snap .that caused fear and trembling among those there who suffered in the San Francisco disas ter.
