Resolutions were adopt ed endorsing the administration of President Taft, the course of Con prcsHman Morehead the mention of whose name was repeatedly greeted with applause. These delegates, of whom four are known to be in favor of Morehead for chairman, were elected without instructions: G. T. Sykes, C. J. Roberts, R. II. Rogers, J. T. Cozart, C. P. Hester and J. II. The Republicans of Franklin held their convention on Monday, August 1st, and instructed in favor of E. C. Duncan for State chairman. This was not accomplished without con siderable opposition. The delegates to the Greensboro convention are W. H. Yarborough, Jr., J. F. Mitchell, T. H. Whitaker, S. T. Gufton and T. J. Jackson. It was decided to post pone the selection of candidates for the county offices until August 23rd. voufcti I am confileoi that it m l replaced by a mw one. "With retards and &i 1&ml "Very truly yot:r. How we can ever hope to carry the State by such methods I can't understand. It matters not how much we may differ as to men and measures, all letters of the "White" and "Lusk" variety should be repudiated by all Republicans who desire fair play and wish to see their party grow. Mr. Butler is not candidate, as we understand, his name having been brought forth by opponents of Mr. Morehead in order, as they thought, to weaken his (Mr. Morehead's) chances for the State chairmanship. Rut from the way Guilford and other counties have acted, they will no doubt see their mistake after it is too late. Now as to Mr. Morehead, we've only to say that any man who can turn a Democratic majority of over five thousands into a Republican victory is good enough for us for 1 State Chairman or any other office to which he may aspire. Nash County delegates were not instructed, but they are practically : solid for Morehead, I am told. Yes, a few more letters of the "White" and "Lusk" stripe will make it unanimous for him. Seven-Eights of Delegation for More head for State Chairman. Winston-Salem, N. C, July 30. The Republican County Convention here to-day named delegates to the State Congressional and Judicial conventions, and nominated county and legislative tickets as follows: For State Senate, Judge H. R. Star back; for House, Ed. M. Linville and H. P. Stimpson; for Sheriff, D. A. Jones; for Clerk of Court, Sam F. Vance; for Register of Deeds, Henry W. Masten; re-nominated for Treas urer, P. W. Crutchfield; for Sur veyor, F. O. Jones; for Coroner, Dr. W. C. Linville; for Commissioners, J. A. Vance, V. O. Robinson, and J. E. Douthit. It is claimed that seven-eighths of the delegates to the Congressional and State Conventions favor the re-nomination of Congress man John M. Morehead, and his elec tion as State Chairman. This is taken to mean that the name of Maj. J. E. Alexander, of this city, who had announced his candidacy for State Chairmanship, will not be pre sented to the convention. Let every delegate in the State who wants this State of affairs brought about go to work. (Continued from Page 1.) Democrats appointed, and we only failed In the matter of Judgeship, because the organization absolutely refused to endorse any Republican whom they did not think it could control body and soul. During this very severe contest, I made a remark that in the appointment of a Judge, I would even prefer to see the Presi dent go outside of the State than outside of the Republican party, and you may rest assured that I got the usual roasting from all Democratic slanderers. Only a day or two ago I saw where a Republican malicious ly misquoted this remark and at tempted to make me say that I want ed some one out of the State to be appointed. I could have expected such false quoting from Democratic sources, and I suppose must learn that it will come from pie-counter sources in our own ranks. "I shall be a candidate for the Chairmanship and shall bend every effort toward the building up of a strong, militant, successful party. To do this recruits must be invited and fairly treated, but at all times I fa vor the appointment to office of those who have served faithfully and a preference should be given to those that have served best. I am not go ing into any unseemly scramble, be cause I have absolute faith that the People will finally come into their own and take charge of the only Party which thoroughly represents the people. President Moyer, of the Western Federation of Miners, who was called an undesira ble citizen by Theodore Roosevelt when he was one of the chief figures in the Couer d'Alene troubles, yester day made a bitter attack on Samuel Gompers, President of the American Federation of Labor, declaring his retirement would be a blessing to the working classes. Other members of the Miners' Federation have also at tacked Gompers. "Neither Gompers nor the Amer ican Federation of Labor can turn us from the policy to which we are pledged, industrial union and con certed action in politics," said Moyer.
