Washihgtoh- Oct. 7. Private dispatches still indicate Johnson's election, though the Stokes party may hold the balance of power and compel a compromise. Balloting must commence on or before 17th mst., and con tinue daily until a choice is effected. The N. Y. Tribune has a Tennessee special to the effect, that Eldridge's friends will favor a delay, as his chances are improving daily. Johnson's friends are working hard and feel confident. News Items.
