Confusion rVoters Should Be Certain That; Their Xames Are on tlie Righ Books Xo Registration After Saturday Evening at Sunset. On account of the very large num ber of voters'in the city who are not properly registered for the approach ing election and because of some con fusion ' regarding the location of the places for registration and the. bounds of the several voting precincts, The Chronicle is presenting today a de scription of each precinct wilfi the place of registrations It is estimated that there are something- like 2,000 voters in the city and county who have not qualified to vote by register ing and probably 1,200 or more or these are in . the city and Charlotte township. Some of these voters are probably under the impression that their registration for primary or city elections will qualify them to vote in the coming general election and be cause of this misapprehension all voters are being urged to drop by the registrar's place and be" certain that their name is' on' the right book. The. books close Saturday at sunset. County Chairman W. F. Harding has made another discovery. Huh dreds of persons registered by mis take on the general election books for the primary of' last May and are now serenely fancying themselves qualified to vote November 5. They are mis taken. It was through an error in the office of register of deeds that the l general registration books were dis tributed throughout the county on that occasion. .. The law requires that registration for a general election shall occur between " October 3 and October 26 inclusive. It Is necessary, therefore, for those who registered in May to do so again in the same books, otherwise they may be "challenged on election day. - Persons who registered in the pre cinct in which they now reside either at a general . election two, four or more years ago, need not again do so. - - -. '. Mr. Harding has secured the names of 200 Democrats in the city who reg istered in May and who must re-register and he will notify these ind?v'l ually. Forty were found'in one ward. At one voting place the registrar him self was not legally registered and would have been unable 'to vote If s challenged. , - All persons who have moved into another precinct, or who have come from another county or State, and j ' all persons ' who have ; come of 5 age j since the last general election "two j years ago.will.be required to register. Stough will soon have completed, a. brick store to be used as a fancy grocery and cafe. It is located just, north of the new post office. It is rumored that Mr. . P., A. Stough will likely build in the . near future for Mr.' Sidney .White a brick building adjoining this cafe, the- new structure to be used as a store. (.. There is a very hopefur feeling among the business men , that with the good prospects for. better fortune among the cotton mills for, .some time to come, this prosperity is' to be general and. that all classes, ,town and country alike, will share In it. The only dark line js the crop shortage Tn this section by reason of the Summer drought and the fact that cotton may continue its downward' course for a time. "Bobbie' Wearn Starred. DAVIDSON,.
