BEGS THE BOARD TO PROVIDE FOB SEPER ATE CELLS IN JAIL Miss Julia Alexander president of the Humane Society of Charlotte and a delegation of the members of this benevolent organization, . appeared yesterday before the . board of county commissioners to urge the pro viding of separate apartments in the county jail for youths of both the white and colored race. . Miss Alexander, as principal spokes man of the delegation of ladies,, made an eloquent and urgent plea for the cause which she represented, declar ing that she had understood that the youths, boys of both races, were now placed in Jail in company with older and hardened criminals. Miss Alexan der stated that the fact could not be doubted that this association was greatly to the detriment of the boys so situated and that in he name of humanly they should be given sep arate quarters. It was suggested by the delegation that the third floor of the jail be made into two apartments, one of these to be used for the boy prisoners sent to the Jail. The plea of the ladles was strongly presented and drew from Chairman W. M Long the declaration that the board would do whatever it could, with such finances as might be avail able for this purpose. Mr. C. C. Moore, clerk of the Court, presented the ladies of the Humane Association at the hearing before the f board of county commissioners. ' X4fe.)
