A Large Number of Votes Cast and the Result in Doubt. The returns from the different precincts in Mecklenburg county indicate that the legislative ticket has been elected by a small majori ty. The Senatorial fight is in doubt and it will no doubt take the official returns to decide. Both Dr. Al exander and Mr. W. C. Dowd claim their election. A number of irreg ularities have been reported, especi ally in the Senatorial fight. Some of these irregularities will be a ba sis for abundant proof to throw the vote of several precincts out if pres sed. The matter is in the hands of the Chairman of the executive committee to decide. The legislative ticket has been undoubtedly elected by a small ma jority. Throughout the entire town the regular Democratic ticket wa badly mutilated by the voters for causes unknown. Hid Charlotte done her part as she has done in the past there would have been no cause for any close vote. THE NEXT SENATE. 26' How it Will Stand on Joint Ballot Several States Still in Doubt. How Bryan Received the News. Lincoln, Neb , Nov. 4. Mr. Bryan, who left the house only once during the day, and then to attend the funeral of a neighbor, did not remain upstairs as he did last night, but came down into the library to receive the returns.
