Possibility of an attack on the ports of the British and French West Indies by a German raider has created alarm among offi cials and residents of the islands and every possible precaution for defense is being taken by the authorities, ac cording to the Rev. J. Henry. Cart wright, of London, England, who ; ar rived here today on the British steam ship Parima from West Indian ; ports. Mr. Cartwright has just completed" a tour of the islands ' as representative of the English Wesleyan missions board. He said reports of the raider in Southern trade routes' were received there just before Christmas. At that time there was at Trinidad the British transport- Magallena loaded with West Indian recruits ready to sail for Eng land. On receipt of news of the raider the troops were disembarked and scat tered throughout the island to strengthen the defense of the port. The Magadalena he added left Trinidad un der cruiser escort and it was reported to him that she had taken refuge In ( Martinique. "Lights tn the towns and cities are forbidden," Mr. Cartwright said. "In addition, lighthouses and light buoys along the coast have been darkened and all vessels leaving port are warned to look out for hostile ships." HENRY HACKNEY HEATING AND PLjMBING. ' ' Many of the advertisements' were masterful and showed that the writers possessed talent of a high order that is needed in the great field of publicity and if cultivated and developed, would probably lead to distinction and rich rewards. We shall watch with interest the careers of those whose work has brought them so favorably to our notice, arid shall be surprised if some time in the future we fail to find that their achievements have justified our predictions for their success. ; ' that yields returns whetfe jrc me or not. p0r with a policy in one of iix&u-wass companies We represent, there is a feei ing of protection that alone worth more than the cost of the insurant n..,- : safe and be safe by ordering Sottthetn Real Estate, Loan & Trust Co.
