EPIDEMIC NOW " UNDERCONTROL City Health Officer Thinks Meastes Can be Wiped Out Soon. The epidemic of measles is subsid ing, Dr. W. A. McPhaul, city health oftic. said Fridav. Ahnut 1R cases have been reported this week, as compared with around 300 for last week. Dr. McPhaul believes . that a decrease in the number of cases re ported will continue now. The epidemic began, last fan, three or four weeks after a circus showed in the city. Dr. McPhaul is inclined to' lay the blame for the epidemic upon the circus. Prio rto the hnHdav thn health office was in ' control of tne i epidemic, but shortly after the first of the year an alarming increase in the -daily reperts of cases began cam ing in. The peak of the epidemic was reach ed last week when the 300 cases were reported. Nearly 1,000 cases were re portd, to the health department during three months. , Commenting on the disease, Dr. Mc Phaul said most people are inclined not to regard measles seriously. Many parents attempt to have their chil dren contract the disease. WiiBiHno that it must come eventually and con sidering the earlier in life the better. Measles kills one out , of every four children . undr. four years of age who contract it.. It also kills a large, per centage of old' people.
