SUNSHINE QUOTA' f WILL BE LARGER Recent Solar Eruptions May, Aid in the Development of Vegetation. London, June 3. He declares it is probably the man- soon will be strengthened and that, in consequence, the. Indian harvest will be improved. He even' ventures the opinion that the .. electrified particles thrown off hy the "sun during the distur bance may assist in the development of vegetation and increase the amount! of dust held'."Vu8pehde'd''ifr'tKe "atmos-l phere. . Sir Oliver says -the magnetic distur bances that attended the solar erup- tion were .due to a torrent of electn- t-? fieri rtortlfslAC ixrhinVi . rr.rieti o -i t PV: ganiic eiectric current, xnis opinion.-is also held by Camille Flammarionf the veteran French astronomer, who has expressed surprise, at a storm of such unusual violence occurring at this time. M. Flammarion- has pointed out that the sun is now at. a period of dimin ishing activity, the eruptions on the surface of the luminary, recurring at intervals of eleven years: Sir Frank Dyson, the astronomer royal, declares the disturbances caused by vthe sun spots were the worst ever experienced in England. - '". Dr. E. W. Maunder, founder of the British Jistronomical : association, who has, for a long time, made a study of sun spots and of terrestrial distur bances which might be attributed to them, definitely holds that streams jot electric particles thrown out into space from the vast whirling cavtty popularly known as a sunspot gause magnetic storms upon encountering the earth's atmosphere. Dr. Maunder has reached no decision1 as to the effect of these par ticles upon the weather, but he agrees the subject is as yet to be thoroughly explored. .h .,,., won rj r .3 vi im 11 1 IB Bt& 19 U HU M B Li ' ' 'I in5 in es In-f iiief . - . . . . ; II MEN'S, WOMEN'S AND CHILDREN'S SHOES AND OXFORDS FOR EVERY KIND OF WEAR AT PRICES THAT ARE HARD TO BEAT.
