THE WEATHER AND
CROP CONDITIONS
Temperature and sunshine averaged
above normal during the week with
local, , unevenly distributed rains. Good
rains occurred in some sections, prob
ably one-third, to half of the State,
but m other sections rain is much need
ed, especially over most of the central
district. Crops are generally clean.
Cotton continues to show some improve
ment, though rather poor in many lo
calities and generally below average.
Tobacco, corn, truck, sweet potatoes
and minor crops vary from poor to
good, being affected partly by the local
character of the rainfall. Tobacco is
blooming too small in several important
producing counties. Recent conditions
have not been favorable over most of
the wheat section and the crop is turn
ing out poorly as harvesting proceeds,
the heads not beine Well filler!" in
some sections the crop is very poor.

Louisiana and Mississippi, with heavy
rains of 1.00 to 1.50 in. in a few scat
tered localities in Tennessee, Alabama
and Florida, and over 2.00 in. in east
ern Texas.

that the plague is spreading rapidly
throughout southeastern Russia from
Persia to Siberia, was presented yester
day at the Pan-Russian Health Con
gress in Moscow by Health Commis

ern and middle provinces of Russia,
and it was said there was hardly a
