Session.
The eight 'months' schools of tha
county began their sessions Monday
morning and, according to Superinten
dent J. M. Matthews of the county
school system, the attendance was
larger than usual for the opening day.
No announcement could be made as to
exact figures but the reports from
principals of all the schools indicated
the attendance was surprisingly larga.
The nine-months' schools opened a
week ago and they also were reported
to have opened under bright auspices.
The other schools of the county will
open from time to time until about
the middle of November.
One of the matters up for considera
tion at the meeting of the Count
Board of Education Monday afternoon
was motor bus transportation, which
has been tried at several places in the
county and found to work admirably.
Parents and teachers are reported to
be warm advocates of the new method
and several new districts are in line,
for this new phase of school, develop
ment as soon as the financial arrange
ments and other preliminaries cah be
made. The board granted the request
of the patrons of the Knox and Cen
tral schools in Steel Creek township
for motor transportation to the Ob
server school house.
One of the features of the school
openings is the large number of mn
teachers engaged this year. - For sev
eral years past men teachers in the
county schools have been very few and
last year there were only three. This
year there are more than 35 men
teachers in the county schools and
the standard of teaching has been
raised :'n several respects.
