THE CHARLOTTE NEWS, CHARLOTTE, N. C, SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 20, 1921. Ml 18 X jSjEWS MOTES MOVIELAND $K Colleen Moore looks like a bold, bad pirate here, but it is so very easy for her to capture hearts as her own -sweet self that it was scarcely necessary to dress up in this fashion. She wears this effective pirate's suit in her next picture, 'The Wall Flower," a Rupert Hughes story produced by Goldwyn. - Miss Moore is one of Marshall Nell an s many finds. She played In "Dinty," "Tho Lotus Eaters," and more recently in "Bits of Life." JOAN GORDON WEDS. Joan Gordon, who played an impor taut part in "The Queen of Sheba," which was directed by her - uncle, J. Gordon Edwards, was recently married to Roland Hooker, fresh from Yale and son of Edward Hooker, former mayor of Hartford, Conn. AND THE HEROINE? Wallace McDonald was badly burned about the forehead while making a se rial recently. He was carrying the heroine from a burning shack when he fell with his burden. CoDceo Moor m piraU bold. Jean Acker, in private life Mrs Ru dolph Valentino, is a patient in a Los Angeles hospital as the climax of a lingering illness. " She will not be able to return to the screen for a number of weeks. : In her next screen story Bebe Dan iels will be seen as a boy. The play was especially written for her by Nina Wilcox Putnam. Lowell Sherman has cfuit pictures for the time 'being arid signed with A. H. Woods ,to play in a. legitimate stage production' now being rehearsed in New York. On completion of his present vaude ville tour Carlyle Blackwell is to re turn to films. However, rather than play heroes he 'is to portray characters. When this pretty picture of Jacque line Logan reached my desk I won dered what excuse I could find for showing it off. I had lust about decided to tell you That she deserved mertion because she rose from the chorus of the "Floradora" revival to a leading feminine role in Goldwyn pic tures when a much more important notice was whispered to me. Miss Logan, it seems, is to follow in the footsteps fo the former "Flora dora" sextette, each of whom married a millionaire. Larry Fisher, a Chi cago millionaire, is reported engaged to Miss Logan, and when auestioned 'tis said Jacqueline did not deny the re-port. Miss Logan is at present playing opposite Lon Chaney in the Goldwyn picture. "The Octave of Claudius." LILA DENIES RUMOR. The young lady who should know best about it says she is not going to raarry John Gilbert, who stars in rcir.a.nt!5 plays for William Fox. Lila South again. Le3 and Gilbert have been great pals for a long time, but the rumor of their approaching marriage that came out of - Los Angeles is denied most emphatically by both Miss LeeTand her , mother. According to ; reports Lila is the most engaged . young lady in Hollywood. THE FILM LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW. . With all that vast acreage of ground where -Washington Iry:ng was wont to roam and place his characters in his stories, we have often wondered why. some director did not immortalize it. Tarrytown is so near the eastern studios; so is Spuyten Duyvil and the other villages that Irving made fa mous with his delightful tales of long ago. Now it seems Allan Dwan is go ing to do just that. He is a going to take a company to Tarrytown and put into motion picture Ichabod Crane and the rest of the quaint characters of long ago. It should be an inspired film with all that gorgeous background. DURHAM EPISCOPAL MINISTER TO PREACH BEERY WITH NAZIMOVA. Wallace Beery has been engaged by Charles Bryant for the role of Helmer in MaeYme Nazimova's forthcoming production of "A Doll's House" which with Oscar Wilde's "Salome," will compose Nazimova's first repertoire film for United Artists. S. C. TO INVITE FOCH. Columbia, S. C, Nov. 19. D. B Johnston, president of Winthrop Col lege, who goes to Washington Monday to attend "a banquet tendered in the national capital to Marshal Foch, will take with him an invitation from Gov ernor Cooper for the French soldier to visit South Carolina when he comes Jacqueline Logan. - " CHAPLIN, TO WRITE A BOOK. Charlie Chaplin has announced that We is going to write a 50,000-word story for a magazine about his recent trip abroad. While in Europe he met Pola Negri, whom he described as "even more charming ahd vivacious off the screen than on." Wonder who'll be the heroine of his story? But before Charlie takes up his pen he's going to buckle down to the more serious business of making another comedy. BLANCHE CONVALESCING. Blanche Sweet is convalescing in a Los Angeles hospital from an opera tion, the second she has undergone in the lat three months. . GOSSIPY.
