EDITRESS AIKEN
A VISITOR HERE
Smart Southern Woman
Started Film Magazine
and Made Success of It:
One of the interesting visitors to the
Southern Motion Picture Exposition
and one of the influential figures at
th? exposition is Miss Eugene Aiken,
editor of The Weekly Film Review, of
Atlanta, a publication that circulates
widely in the Southern States, partic
ularly seven of them adjacent to this
territory and Atlanta.
For five years Miss Aiken was with
the Universal Film Manufacturing
Company and two years later was with
the Paramount-Artcraft people, or S.
A. Lynch Enterprises, now the South
ern Enterprises, Inc., as publicity di
rector and promotion agent. Seeing
the need of a publication that would

has always given the best that lies in its power
to the upbuilding of Charlotte, lending its re
sources and facilities to the extension of legiti
mate enterprises.
It has accomplished much for the general good,
recognizing that the prosperity of a community is
but the sum of the prosperity of its individuals.

formation to the exhibitors, exchange J
men and others connected with the J I
movie industry, Miss Aiken conceived
' the idea of starting a publication of
that nature in this territory. Although
there was already one in this field
that had just started, she thought
there was an opportunity for another
publication of a little different type.
From this idea The Weekly Film Re
view was born two years ago. It has
been successful beyond the founder's
most sanguine expectations, although
she has only a small staff, one other
than herself in fact, Mrs. Margaret O.
lies.
Since her paper carries reviews of
many of the big films released first in
Atlanta, Miss Aiken's opinion on pic
tures is widely observed. I
"Honesty is the only policy that will
go in this kind of business," Miss
Aiken said "as in most other lines of
endeavor. "You may get away with it
a while by hedging with the truth or
diverging slightly from rigid honesty,
but in the long run it pays to be on
the level and entirely honest in review-.
ing pictures as in everything else."
Although Miss Aiken, who is one of
the personalities of the convention, has
been many times taken for a New Or
leans creole, or an Italian lady of the
most typical characteristics, she is a
native born Georgian, reared a short
distance from Atlanta, largely on a
farm, and is related to the family for
whom Aiken, S. C, is named. Her
family is related to the Crawford -family
of Georgia and the well-known
Byrd lamily of Virginia'. She attend
ed school at the Normal College, Ath
ens, Ga., and afterward attended Chi
cago University. She is one of nine ,
children. I
One of her hobbies ia reading every 1
new life of Napoleon Bonaparte that ,
comes from the press. She thinks, !
with Arthur Brisbane, that Napoleon !
is one or the few master minds of all
time and never tires studying his life.

BARGAINS ARE LOST
to you because you haven't saved, and the little fellow you used to laugh at
gets the coon skins and wears the diamonds. Money is far too centralized, but
some money you must have, and have it honestly, therefore save and do it now.
A FOOL CAN MAKE MONEY
but the wise guy is the only saver, and he's "the only pebble on the beach."
The fellers in this village who make the mare go struggled in youth and laid
up for the rainy days. Achievement is the roadbed to happiness.
OUR INSTALLMENT SHARE
at 25c per week is blessing thousands, and today accounts for the multitude of
homes now under construction in Charlotte. Every man and woman should
carry just as many of these, as possible. You can get 'em back to October
but if you want to see George, wake up. Can prepay some of these, too'
thus using your surplus to best advantage.
OUR DIVIDEND SHARES
will one day bless this town , and every man that works within it. Keen you
sugar at home and let every feller have a slice of apple pie. Ours must stay
at home and it's a crowning virtue, believe me.
