Charlotte will, on tomorrow, take & much needed rest. One solid week of plays at the Academy next week. The mercury went down to 12 de grees above zero this morning. The handsome Trust building is now being treated to the finishing touches. After all, there are same people who' cannot distinguish a joke from a cat. Nothing has been heard of Will Harris, the barn burner. He has again disappeared. Miss Johnsie Mason is quite sick at her home on North Church street. She is threatened with appendicitis. fcTr. During his visit he gave an exhibition of his swill as a pianoist to a select audience. The pro gram included works by Belthoven, Chopin and Liszt. Mr R. C. Deal, of CDarkton, was a Chariotte visitor today. He stopped at the Central. Mr. A. D. Thompson, of Philadelphia, is at the Central. Mr. W. J. Dakins, of Charleston, S. C. is at the Central. Mrs. Fred TerTy. of Raleigh, is spending the holidays with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Reynolds. Mr. Y. S. Thompson, of China Grove, is at the Central. Mr. Jay D. Walton has returned from his home, Morganton. Mrs. Frank Little, of Wadesboro, was here today. Mr. A. H. Williams, of Maiden, was at the Buford today. Tried to Poison Mother. Chelsea, Dec. 26. Miss Catherine V. Richardson, charged with trying to poison her mother, Mrs. Harley Rich ardson, was arraigned in court today. She pleaded not guilty and the case was continued ten days. She was held in a ten thousand dollar bond. Married in Virginia. At the home of the bride's father, near Martinsville, Va., Christmas day, Miss Lucy Jameson, of Henry county and Mr. W. E. Stultz, of Char lotte, were united in marriage. The bride is a daughter of Mr. T. J. Jameson, of Henry county and is a splendid young woman. The groom is a well known traveling salesman of this city. Great Increase of Immigrants. Washington, DeC. 26. During No vember 62,709 immigrants came to the United States. This is 13,105 more than arrived during the same month last year. Increase comes mainly from those countries of Europe which have furnished the least desirable classes of aliens in the past.
