THE MARKETS (Reports Received by Private Wire by Howell & Dodsworth.) COTTON LETTER. 7w York. June 22. C. W. Lee & c . a : It looked very much as though !.. i;iown intended to get control of ,:it puseiit stock of cotton in New , ;k and New Orleans. At one time ;!.. ic were evidences that enough col l. n had been sold to allow him to ,: .late gradually and terminate his :.:!. st iu July and August in both i:. arrets. At that time there was a v. 11 defined impression in a great e.oay circles that such would be the ;.;('. But recent developments have :, ,: disproved this idea. Instead of KveoJatiag the remainder, houses do business for New Orleans people :m- leavers of July and August on com j i) a: ively large scale consideringprice. This buying extends into September as t!oe options in New Orleans are under natroi of long interest there. It can i nadiiy seen, granting, of course, Of ability of these people to take cot ,ia and get rid of it without any catas i:,.juie. that we are going to have a wry undesirable sort of market during t!a rtst of the summer. Under ir , ;!ii!taaces we cannot but feel that i tw irop months are better purchases on breaks than sale on bulges. A few iii.ii e days of good weather and irn piuvfraiit in figures issued July 3rd, a:ei n a crops ought to work back to :i l-i' cent basis. But the present I'm) market does not appear a sub :i.intial one as fluctuations very sub liminal and erratic without making n, a. ii progress in either direction. We would like to see a further decline on good weather and a favorable report or. July :'.rd. and after that market is LUely "to improve. A Number Of Buildings Are Now Be ing - Erected. That section of the Third Wardxin the vicinity of the Southern Railway yards is making many marked im provements. . Messrs. Yarboro & Bellinger, now the only junk dealers in the city, who own the entire lot between Second and Third streets and the main line 'and the C. C. & A. division of the Southern Railway, have erected a nice brick of fice at the northern end of their yard fronting on Third street, and also new warehouses, stables, scales, etc. They have filled in and leveled up the ground with about 300 loads of dirt, made a new and more convenient entrance anfl otherwise added vastly to the appear ance and value of their property. The buildnig on Second street, which was formerly occupied as an office, has been torn down and re-arrranged and is now used as a hide packing house. These gentlemen are among the most extensive junk dealers in the South. Mr. Yarboro, of the firm, has charge of a branch business in Richmond, Va The firm also has branches in Greens boro, Henderson and Spartanburg. The Crowley Mills, at West Fourth street and the Southern Railway, man ufacturers of towels and quilts, has constructed a new brick engine and boiler room and installed a new en gine, boiler and pump. This firm has always done a flourishing business. Mr. A. C. Summerville, proprietor of the Magnolia Mills, has built a strong retaining wall along South Graham street by the mills. These mills are now manufacturing yarns and threads and are doing a good business. The Charlotte, Columbia and Augus ta division of the Southern Railway has erected a modern steel overhead bridge across South Graham street, The bridge consists of a solid span and has massive concrete piers. It is a handsome and substantial bridge. The Southern Railway is making preparations for extending the area and putting in more trackage in .the southern limits of the yard, which is made necessary by the increasing busi ness of the road. The condition of Third street ap proaching the Southern Railway has been materially improved by filling in and grading it. There are still a few sites for manu facturing plants wanting sidetracks in this vicinity, which, as their desira bility becomes known, will be taken up ty capital seeking profitable invest ment. With the prospect of the sale and re organization of the Victor Mills upon a more profitable basis in the early fall, together with the completed extension of the street car line out to Eiddle, the constant building of new residences and the making of other improvements, the Third Ward is look ing up, and is destined to become a considerably populous and prosperous section of the city.
