Lee & s': ""he cotton situation grows more interesting. Developments today were such as to relieve the trade from any doubts as to the-attitude of the JNew Orleans interest regarding the July option in both cities. Support was forthcoming and not only took place in July but was instrumental in main taining and at the same time ad vancing the level of both August and September. "While weekly weather re ports from Washington was regarded favorably and under normal conditions would have resulted in a moderate de cline in the new crop positions, brok ers with buying orders were sent into the pit to hold the summer months and attempt to hold the entire list. 'As sentiment is not inclined to the short side o any great extent, it was not dif ficult to hold the market. But of course, the longer this condition exists more dangers are being stored up for future. An artificial market is not one to trade in extensively and from course prices today think we are justi fied in calling market artificial. Now, the New Orleans people are attempting what is generaly considered as impos sible. That is, to get control of the supply of American cotton to an ex tent that will allow them to dictate prices. Mr. Leiter tried it in whert and was successful for a time. Mr. Brown may be and may not be aiming at a virtual control of the supply of American cotton and world's corner. But indications now point that way, and it is therefort to the advantage of traders to understand possibilities on both sides and to avoid trading in these three months. As we have saM before, we would only purchase new crops on substantial -breaks below 9 3-1 cents.
