THE MARKETS (Reports Received by Private Wire by Howell & Dodsworth.) N ..... York. June 24 C. W. Trade. Charlotte 1 EXAMINATION FREE i NEW YORK STOCKS. New York, June 24 Town Topics says: Short covering carried the stock raarket up in the late trading yester day. We expect to see further covering, but do not believe the market will ad vance to any great extent and those who bought when stocks were weak should take fair profits. We believe the sharp advance in fuel was merely due to a drive at the shorts and in this wild stock violent fluctuations are usual, as we have often pointed out. Bears on the issue still insist that it will sell very much lower but the proper time to sell it short is not after a big drop but after a sharp advance. We believe St. Paul will work a little higher, also Erie Second, Reading and Wabash pre ferred. We are not inclined to recom ment purchase on rallies, however, as this is merely a traders market. London early market for American stocks was firm. New York, June 24. Dow, Jones .& Co.: American stocks in London V8 to '2 per cent above parity. Crop reports on corn show some improvement. Moderate gold exports on Thursday ex pected. London settlement commenced today. Fourteen roads for May show average net increase 20-40 per cent. Forty-three roads for second week June show gross increase 11-36 per cent. Reported Waldorf crowd short of C. F. I. Stocks generally plentiful in lean crowd with Pennsylvania in bet ter supply. Reported English shipblid ing interests bidding for United States Ship Building on basis of forty for Bonds. Banks lost to Sub-Treasury since Friday 611,000 dollars. Easy call money expected over end of half year, but Time money still in good demand. Heavy imports of steel billets continue. Atchison . 05 4-.O.J.L.I IX.
