NEW CATHOLIC HALL.
A Well Appointed Structure Now Be
ing Erected.
The News man was taken through
St. Peter's Catholic Church Hall by
Father Francis this morning.
The building, a commodious two
story structure, is being erected on
First street, just in rear of the church.
The contractor, Mr. J. Y. Orders is
lushing the work in order to have
everything in readiness for the Catho
lic bazaar which will be held in the
building July 14, 15 and 16.
As you enter the building, on the
first floor to the right is a large airy
room that has been arranged for
Sunday school purposes. Another large
room just acros sthe hallway will be
used for the library and reception
room.
Just in rear of these is a large room
that will be used also for Sunday
school purposes.
The second story is given over to the
dramatic hall in which lectures, mu
sicals and other church entertainments
will take place. A large stage has been
built and dressing rooms and other
conveniences will be provided.
Father Francis has had entire super
vision of the building and his splendid
taste as well as foresight is to be seen
at every turn.
There are a number of exits in case
of fire or other accidents and on the
whole the building is well arranged j
end strictly first class. I
The Catholic bazaar which will begin j
the 14th of July will be one of the
special attractions for the heated term.
This entertainment as stated before,
will be held in the Catholic Hall and
will, in addition to the bazaar be a
'house warming" at the completion of
this structure.
The building is equipped throughout
with steam heat, the furnace at the
church heating the rectory and the hall
as well as the church. The heating
plant was installed, by the Carolina
Heating and Plumbing Co.

Mr. James W. Osborne Wins Big i
Fight Before New York Court. j
Mr. James W. Osborne, formerly As- :
sistant District Attorney of New York,
and a native of this city, has just won
a $32,000 suit in the Supreme Court of
New York State. j
The New York Times says: Henry i
Rosenberg, for many years in the em-
ploy of Bierman. Heidelberg & Co., a i
dry goods firm, doing business at 2S0 i
Broadway, yesterday recovered a vcr- j
diet for $52,000 damages against Isaac ;
N. Heidelberg, a member of that firm, i
but now a member of the firm of Heid
elberg, Wolf & Co., for breach of con
tract. The suit was tried in the Su
preme Court before Justice O'Gorman
and a jury.
Mr. Rosenberg, who was represented
by ex-Assistant District Attorney
James W. Osborne and Rosenberg &
Proskauer, had been in the employ of
the first-mentioned firm for many
years. He had commenced at a salary
of $1,200 a year. His salary was stead
ily increased until he received $12,000
a year. He considered his services
were worth more, and asserted that in
January, 1S99, Mr. Heidelberg entered
into an arrangement to give him 25
per cent, of the net profits for that
year and subsequently unless the
agreement were terminated. Rosen
berg said that the profits for 1S99 camo
to $230,000. and that he was entitled to
one-fourth of this amount.
The defendant, for whom Wolf.
Kohn & Ullman appeared, denied that
any such agreement as that alleged
the plaintiff had ever been entered into
and that the only arrangement he hsd
made with Rosenberg was that his sal
ary was to be $12,000 a year, which
sum he was perfectely willing to pay
him. Mr. Heidelberg further averred
that, the net profits for the year 1S99
were only $101,000. The jury returned
a verdict for the plaintiff for $52,000,
and Justice O'Gorman granted Mr. Os
borne an extra allowance of $780.

brother, now at Marshville, Union
county, before the close of the year
in order to push the business more.
These gentlemen own the valuable
property at 805 North Poplar street
which they occupy in conducting the
wood business.

"BEAUMONT," A Beautiful Summer Home at Flat Rock, N. C.,is How Offered for Sale
FLAT ROCK is situated on. the broad plateau at top of one range of the" Blue Ridge Mountains, alxut
twenty-five hundred feet above the sea, and about twenty-five miles Southeast of Asheville, and four from Hf-'i-dersonville,
on the Asheville and Spartanburg Division of the Southern Railway. ,
Its beginning as a summer and health resort dates back about sixty years, when several French and Engl'i
gentlemen, owning lands in South Carolina and Georgia, attracted by the natural beauty and delightful climate ot
this region, built their summer homes and villas here. Among these early comers were the Count du Choisei;'.
the Barings, the British Consul Mollyneaux, and also a number of wealthy planters from the Coast region t
the South. - c
There are now in the neighborhood of Flat Rock some fifty or sixty of these beautiful old estates, many (v
them still occupied as summer homes by wealthy people of the South, and some of them by Northern peoiiio
who have bought of former owners.
There is no more Delightful Summer Climate anywhere than this mountain region, and from this home are
many interesting drives Mt. Hebron, Pinnacle, Caesar's Head, Chimney Rock, ' French Broad Valley, and bin
more, the famous estate of Geo. W. Vanderbilt all being popular drives from here.
This fine property which we are now offering is known as "the Andrew Johnson place,' and is one of the verj
few of the line old estates at Flat Rock that can be purchased. ,
The property comprises two hundred acres of land about fifty of this being rich bottom land, with a sui

house, tenant hocuses, etc. The purest of spring. water is supplied to the house by hydraulic ram. .
It would cost at least $10,000 to replace the improvements on this property in addition to the cost otu
land, which is valued in this vicinity at $25 to $50)per acre. We offer the entire property for quick sale at
It is a fine property for so little money and will make the purchaser a most beautiful and delightful couuuj
