Reports Xow York. July 16. C. W. Lee & Co. says: December cotton reacted to -52 and October to 9 : 72 before the dose. Liverpool advanced sharply in r.u unexplained fashion, crops news continued satisfactory and there was nothing in the situation to account for the sudden turn in the market. But none the less prices did advance and there was an active demand for cot ton in evidence. We hardly think ad ditional evidences of the advisability and profit to be obtained from buying October below 9 3-4 cents and Decem ler and January below 9 1-2 cents are needed. There is a steady stream of buying orders executed on every de cline below these figures and the most important feature of this buying is the fact that spinners are picking up a great deal of cotton. If prices fail to recede under such satisfactory weather surroundings as we have had lately, it is plain to see that a very : harp advance will take place should crop news change in least respect. When the low figures wera published in June it was generally believed that Uily showing would reveal an im F' Jvement. When the July figures ap peared there was every reason to look for a return to the nine-half cent level m the future market. Now weather has been so good that the next report should be extremely favorable in its comparison with last year. But we very much doubt whether much of a decline in prices can be expected ow ing to the fact that a crop always de teriorates during August. That is, traders will not have ahead of them improvement upc.i which to base sell ing operations. For this reason we strongly- recommend the purchase of fall positions on declines at present time though there- is in sight no im mediate prospect of a substantial ad vance. But under the conditions ex isting this year that advance may rome at the most unexpected moment. "I am not entirely convinced by either your speech - or your gait that you are intoxicated." said the Boston policeman, as he gravely shook his head. The man he had halted swayed a lit tle, then suddenly straightened up, and discreetly hiccoughed behind his hand. "I'll have to give you the supreme test," the officer continued, with a lit tle sigh of commiseration. "Say tran scendentalism." But the unhappy one fell down on the last syllable, and thereupon was haled away to the nearest prison cell. "A' woman can never keep anything to herself," said Danboy to his wife, who had been repeating something he didn't want known. "Oh, yes, she can," said Mrs. Dan boy sweetly.
