The sermon was on Divine Pro vidence, and in it the speaker showed the correct way to view acts of Provi dence, and how they are to be regard ed by the people, of God. The sermon was an able one and made a deep im pression. This afternoon there is no session of the Presbytery but the various com mittees will be engaged in the work assigned them. At 8 o'clock this evening there will be a general gathering in the church to which the public is invited, the subject being Home Missions.. The speakers will be Rev. H. M. Pressly, Rev. E. B. The first session of the Presby tery of Mecklenburg was held last night at Westminster Presbyterian church, this being the regular spring meeting. Dr. A. J. Church St. lS-5t Back From Morehead City, Where He With Other Officers Inspected En campment Grounds. Adjutant General T. R. Robertson has returned from Morehead City, he went with other State officials and military men, to inspect the new en campment grounds at that place. It is too soon to discuss the encamp v ment of 1906 as no orders have been issued yet, and no plans made. However, the state militia has se cured a very fine location for their permanent encampment grounds, there being 167 acres according to Adjutant General Robertson. The ground is well located and drained, and is considered by those who have inspected it an ideal piace ior tne state militia to hold its summer encampment. The encampment last summer was held at Wrightsville Beach, and was' one or the best id. the history of the State. Later the question arose why not have a permanent encampment ground at some well located place in the State either in the mountains or on the coast. A number of cities at once took the matter up and worked for the perma nent encampment to be located in their vicinity, but after a long and careful investigation Morehead City was chosen, and the decision of the offi cials appeared to give entire satisfac tion to the State militia. Adjutant General Robertson reports a pleasant trip to Morehead. City. What Kind of Canal? Washington, April 18. Secretary Taft told the eSnate committee on Inter-Oceanic Canals that the question of the type of the canal must be de termined at once or Chief Engineer Stevens will be placed in a position where he will be compelled to suspend work! He said if Congress does not settle the question the President would not hesitate to adopt the minority recom mendations of the board o-consulting engineers for a lock canal.
