12 1 HE CHARLOTTE NEWS, FEBRUARY 20, 1908, Radiance In a Radium Dance Miss Burkheimer And Mr. Wrenn Delight Audience At Kir mess Last Night-Children do Splendidly, One of the prettiest little tableaux presented at tli'e Kirmess last night, which pvs great- delight to the audi ence, vrcs'the presentation of Psyche and On .ids bv Mrs. Frank Jones ana lit lie Misses Laura Tillett, Mary Kees ler, Margaret Garrett, Kutledge Dudley an i Elizabeth Fore. Psyche stood with all her Greciar radiance, and hold in tow by ribbons the six Utile eupid.?. and the little tot; ve:v greeted v.iih enthusiastic ap plause Th5 ether Grecian scenes were good such as the dance cf the garland girls and the cymbal and tambourine girls The Holland scene, which was rep re ssntcd by a Dutch dance by twelvt young ladies, dressed with ail the ciuaintnoss cf the country cf the cana boats ani wooden shoes thorough! manifested that the scenes and dance? were carefully chosen and worked out. The Scotch scene which was a High I ana fling dance by Misses Marier Washburn and Annie Burkheimer, twe bcautiiul young ;riils, was very pretty indeed, and the little Scotch Highianc lassies with their warm-colored plaids canie ir. for a good share cf applause. The radium dance, as given by Jlr Wrenn and Miss Bessie Burkheimer vas very pretty, and delighted mors than any other one number presentee during tbe evening. In this entrancing number the ra dium li;;hc fell only upon a section o the stage, which threw the rcsc cf i into deep shadow. The actors in this living picture, thus somberly framed wciv thrown out into the lime light The ::: carnation cf lissome grace, Miss Uurkh.-h :er suddenly flashed upon th st: s'.iaming tho brilliance of the ; - mi tight by her own radiance. r's quarrel ensues, after Mr Wrenn, in Knickerbocker garb, ha? - :. . upon the stage. In the courss cf tho affair a posy is dropped upor the liocr and these two in the role oi lovers flit about it, pensive, or pouting or pleased, as the moods change, anc all finally ends well, as a real geoc" love-story, whether in book or upon the stage, should do. The scenes which gave the youngei members of the cast, a chance to shine and earn their portion cf tho praise were tho Indian danees, the 'motr danc- ! the sis little wives. These scenes wore very realistic. In tbe French scene was a minuet that stately, graceful and charmingly inadequate dance, from a moderi standpoint, of the sixteenth and seven teenth century, given by twelve youn; ladies and gentlemen. The costumes in this, scene, with both dames air" beaux with powdered hair and dresser" with ad the antique ouaintness of the courts rf another eem.ury, gave a pic ture replete with history of other times unci customs. Mis;- Hazel Brown, dressed as a Hex ican senerila, who sang a pretty anc" ostein- song, came in for her share oi the applause. One of the scenes, which deserve; special me at ion was that of Egypt which was led by Mrs. Walter Watt us Cleopatra. The costumes in thes" dances- were rich and brilliant as the:, should have been to portray the scenee from this ancient luxurious country or the Xile. Mrs. Walter took the place of Mrs James Moore, of Salisbury, who was unavoidably absent, and while she hat1 not practiced the part, the audience would not have known but that, from the magnificent manner in which she played, that it T.vas an understudy. Mrs. Watt's dancing was superb, anc gave great delight to the audience. Another dance, which greatly pleas ed, was that of the moths, led by Miss Bessie Burkheimer, as the moth queen. This dance was originated by Miss Anna Hold and is considered one o: the most artistic dances which has ever been seen on the stage. Although seme of the dances and scenes seemed to be too lang drawn out, the second presentation of the Kir mess was greatly enjoyed. The scenes, the dances and the drills perfectly portrayed the countries sup posed to be represented in both dres: and manner, and these scenes prove." net only pleasing to the eye, but edu cational as well. Mr. James Wrenn, of Salisbury, the manager who drilled the children, se skillfully, and the Daughters of the American Revolution, are to be con gratulated in presenting a series oi scenes, which have given so much pleasure and profit to those who saw them. The characters in last night's per formance were as follows: Greece. Diana Miss Bessie Henderson. Soldiers Messrs. L. Henderson, J. ,. Wilson, Robert Brown, Charles Ga hie, C. O. Tucker, Stroube, J.
